So, now...

Let's focus on getting Arnott and/or Shanny.

Go for it Bob!

We sat around and watched our divisional rivals add players, now it's our turn!

could Habs afford both? I don't know what Shanahan is looking for in terms of money, but he won't come cheap...same thing for Arnott

Perhaps Arnott at 4 mill, and Shanny at 3?

I say yes to Shanahan for 3 Mil. Because he`s a garantee in term of points and leadership. Arnott, not so much. But after that I think we should focus on making a TRADE instead. Find a way to get somebody good in dumping Aebischer, Sourey and a few others. Let`s make a splash.

Habs could afford both but then they have to make room for them and at least one rookie.

Man even the Toronto Maple Leafs had more action than the Habs...wasn't it Gainey that said that big name free agents would be more willing to come to Montreal....hello...who's left now? Although I like Samsonov i think we already have too many players like him...Roenick? better be cheap as hell...Shanahan? Better be 1 year...2 MAX....Arnott? Overrated and if he really is looking for over 4 million a season I hope the Habs don't bite...otherwise i might be ok with him
who else is there?

i'm very dissapointed yet again...seems it happens every year...i figured it would be different this year with Bob's comment...a bunch of bull

There are still some guys out there...

Arnott
Guerin
Shanahan
Samsonov
Friesen
Roenick
Sanderson
Rucinsky
Sykora
Straka
Daze
Carter

Not that I think they are all good fits for the team, just naming guys.

My god you're annoying.

It was stated that Montreal is on his short list. I see no reason for Bob not to want him, as long as he doesn't ask for too much money.

This happens every summer, the rest of the league sccops up the talent while the Habs sit back and watch. The Sens, Bruins and Leafs have all made significant moves, and what do we do? sign Bouillion. Arnott is the team's last chance to make any sort of splash into the UFA market, its days like these being a Habs fan is frustrating, and I doubt 37 y/o Shanahan is the answer to our prayers.

I was "expecting the unexpected" and all I got was Bouillon. I can understand that it IS unexpected that a NHL team would hurry up to sign Bouillon on the opening of the market, but I was hoping for something else.

Well if the Habs were really agressive to get the guys they wanted, they would get them. It doesn`t matter if it`s Chara or Elias. JUST MAKE THE BETTER OFFER. And don`t ***** out. I would have offered 7 for 7 to Elias.

Thank god you're not the GM.
And what tells you Elias would accept? He's not forced to accept the better offer if he wants to play for an other team.

Chill. Handing out plump contracts to players we don't particularly need (Savard in Boston, Kubina and Gill in Toronto) isn't the way to build a good team. I'm much happier building from within (which incidentally has been publicly stated as the teams general plan for months now, why are you all surprised?) than overpaying for a pylon like Gill.

And how do you list Ottawa as a team that made significant moves? Chara out, Gerber and Corvo in. I think the sens are clearly a worse team today than they were yesterday.

7m for 7 years for Elias, no, Bob wont do deal if they are bad, whatever the player. If we sign NO one its not a big deal. We might be in situation where we could pickup a lot of assets with trades and desperate teams.

I think Arnott and Shanny are exactly what we need. Arnott is big center to play with Kovalev while Shanny is great vet who can still score 30+ goals. I would have loved adding Elias but he would have ruined our salary structure. Imagine we signed Elias for 7mil how do you think Koivu or Kovalev would have felt? I rather have a balanced attack then investing that much money for one player. Its still very frustrating to watch other teams improve.

May be you still don't understand the meaning of a cap space because you would realise that Ferg is going to spend 40 % of his cap space , to pay 4 dmen . That's ridiculous and i am happy that Gainey is not in that kind of situation...

And The first need of Gainey is to find a good top 6 forward ;Tell me ; if Arnott or Shanahan are not enough good for you , could you tell witch ones are the ones that Gainey should target ? Exepted Ellias who resigns with the Devils , who are the players you would have like Gainey to sign ?

This is a rich year for the free agents ; yes , excepted that it's because of all the good dmen that are available, not because of the forwards .

Shanny definitely is not coming here and I would say about 20% chance for Arnott.
