Scouting Reports from TSN.ca

Nolan Baumgartner
Assets:
Has great physical tools. Possesses a booming point shot and the ability to put up points from the back end.

Flaws:
Struggles with defensive-zone coverage, and is mistake-prone. Doesn't use his size nearly enough.

Career potential:
No. 6 or 7 defenseman.

Lars Jonsson
Assets:
Plays with poise. Moves the puck out of the defensive zone efficiently. Owns untapped offensive potential.

Flaws:
Must make better use of his 6-1 frame. Has yet to put it all together against top competition.

Career potential:
Top six defenseman.

what we know about Jonsson... from what i've read, sounds like utter chaos when he's on the ice... both directions.

Where is there more info? Everything I've heard is that the guy has huge offense upside.

Baumer was great for us last year. If it weren't for our cap troubles there's no way we'd have let him go.

Willie Mitchell just got a deal where he makes almost $4M a year, i don't think the cap was the problem. I've seen the Canucks play. He sucks.

He's a good offensive guy for a bottom pairing role. If you expect any more of him than a number 5 or 6 guy you'll be disappointed, but if you ask the Canucks board what they thought of him you'll hear a lot more positives than negatives.

I really don't know what he signed for, but we don't have more than 1.2 million to give to our bottom pairing guys, and we only had two defensemen under contract so we had to sign someone.

So, two busts. I've got to tell you this does not look good at all.

People in VAN are very disappointed that Nolan is gone, just about all the posters on their board anyway.

Baumgartner, for 450K, league minimum pay; Led the D in scoring, lowest giveaways of a regular, and best Plus minus on the team.

70gp, 5g, 29a, 34 points, +11

You got a positionally excellent defenseman, with very very good decision making and passing. Almost never turns over the puck. And he'll hold the line on the power play better than almost anyone i've seen...

His downside is he doesn't play physical at all. but pair him with a monster like Hatcher to take care of that, and it'd all be good.

Another interesting note: Nolan played for Hitch in the WHL for Kamloops.

Yeah, that about sums him up. I don't know why that scouting report says he's mistake prone because he was very good for us.

Baumgartner led the team in d points because everyone else missed significant time.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Oh My God!!!!!! Absolutely BRUTAL!!!!!!!!! Clarke and company must read these boards and read the one post about how someone suggested they should just tank it this year. Guess what folks, they've already packed in the season. I don't know whether I should cry or laugh because this is definitely not one of Clarke's finest hours, that's for sure. And you can bet that Hitch was in on this too. And yet another one of his boys are coming into town in Baumgartner.

And to think, all of this while missing Forsberg for half the season. Anyone want to bet that Hitch is going to come up with some sort of trap system to try to keep this team successful? If we thought that they played the trap before, we haven't seen anything yet. Wow, just brutal. Our "management" team and scouting and coaching staff sat on our thumbs while everyone else got better. What did we get? Nolan Baumgartner and Lars Jonsson.....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I think they signed the wrong Jonsson.......HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

This is going to be one God Awful long season. But at least it's going to be entertaining. Wow, our backend is going to be incredibly bad......HAHAHAHAHAHA........Baumgarter and Jonsson

Like I said, it's going to be an absolute riot next year in Philadelphia with that defense. I think Hitch is gonna have to play firewagon hockey next year with a D like that. Oh, and the writers are going to have a field day wanting Clarke's head on a platter. Oh, it's gonna be fun in Philadelphia next year. Can I get an E-C-Dub chant going on......

It would look so much better if we could sign Johnsson to say, a 1 year $3 million deal.

Pitkanen - Rathje
Johnsson - Hatcher
Meyer and Gauthier or Baumgartner

Still, a point every other game isnt too bad for a 3rd pairing guy.

Look on the bright side, we could have paid $2.1m for Hall freaking Gill!

people are over-reacting again. what else is new its Philly. Ya know the way I am looking at it? yeah its Nolan Baumgartner, hes a 5th or probably even a a 6th guy. But If this means the 2 toed sloth Chris Therien isnt around as the 5th or 6th defenseman I dont mind this at all.

This says Baumgartner gets 4 years and $2.4M, or $600K per season. (It's down near the bottom.) No word on Jonsson.

The article also mentions Svitov getting $800K from Columbus when other sources say $450K ... so take it for what it's worth.
