you're right...the standings don't lie

...the standings tell me that the sharks have 3 wins, fewest in the western conference. i'm glad the sharks aren't losing games, and today's win was a nice one, but they're not gonna make the playoffs with 30 ties. they actually held on to a lead today (with a little help from a skate and the video replay judge), which is a good sign. but the sharks need to find a way to win those close games. colorado will be a good test. lets see if the sharks d can step up against the avs' big guns.

Well, the good news for the Sharks is that:
1) Dallas's Marty Turko has been inconsistent and they only have one line that scores goals essentially. They are not as strong as the Stars from last year.

2) L.A seems to start well every year, but as the season comes to a close, they never make the playoffs.

3) Ducks - I don't know too much about this team. Hope they will suck.

4) Coyotes are just not good :-)

The division is still Dallas' to win, although they aren't a true stanley cup contender in my opinion. Agreed LA usually has good starts, if they had Allison and Deadmarsh they would be a guaranteed playoff team. Without them they will fight for the 8th spot. Anaheim is always a slow starting team. Last year slow start...and then look what happened. They are adjusting to new players still...Federov,Prospal. "On paper" the Ducks are a playoff team, we'll see what happens. Phoenix is a rebuilding team. A lot of things would have to go right for them to make it to the playoffs. They would have to not trade Burke and hope he can have a vezina season, otherwise it will be tough for them. Sharks are in a transition mode. Nabakov would have to have a near Vezina season for Sharks to make it as well. The other key is Marleau breaking out for 35 goals 45 assists. From what I have seen of him he might end up taking a step back this year in terms of production.

Sharks will also have to avoid trading Ricci and Damphouse which is difficult since they will be lost for nothing this summer.

i have no problem with the sharks not winning the division and even not making the playoffs this season, because i know they are not a competitor this year. as long as they put a hard working team out on the ice every night, it doesn't matter if they don't get the wins. i just don't want to see them playing like crap. get rid of the ufa's at the trade deadline, get a good draft pick (hopefully one of those great offensive talents available this year), and in a few seasons maybe we'll talk about the sharks being cup challengers again.

Sharks have a great attitude this season. It's great to see that again, Every guy on this team feals important. They all know they could be the hero that nite. I can just see it in them. Marleau has a talk with assistant Coach Hunter. I think that well wake him up. Sturm is a streaky guy. Sharks have a solid team infront of us. I just want are defense to get tougher. Stuart is doing his job, same with Hannan and Davison. I want to see McLaren throw more hits, I want Rathje to be are plus/minus leader ect.

Goaltending is not a concern on this team, scoring is phading. SO really are defense is where i'm looking.

But I understand were somewhat rebuilding, it's no secret. Michalek,Bernier,Hennessy are 3 names that were waiting for to devolope. Boyes and Goc in the minors.

But we have the talent do some things this year.

I've been a Marlins fan for along time, Before they won it in 1997 even, I didnt think they could do it this year. But they had a great attitude. Obviosly Willis and McKeon helped but you get the point.

We just need everyone to step up and play with that "I can make a difference" attitude.

I agree, the sharks are fun to watch this season because the do try hard most of the time. They are kind of like the Oakland A's - they're young, but they can play :-)

It also helps that the traditionally elite teams in the Western conference aren't as good this year. The league is more fair this year and more fun to watch

Dallas really needs Lehtonen back. Amazing that Modano is -11 so far this year. Really playing poorly.

Yeah Lehtinen has back problems right now from an opening night hit by Jason Krog, of all people.
