Marc Chouinard

What's the gist on this guy? I have some curiosity in his size and abilities. Is Minnesota interested in keeping him, and how tough is he? He's huge, but can he hit?

He is a defensive specialist, not much else. He is way more about positioning than hitting, although he can and does hit on occasion. Dropped the gloves against Tootoo once (quite the size difference, eh) in defense of a teammate who got flattened by Toots (Zyuzin, I beleieve). His skating kinda sucks.
Started the season off really hot, then faded. From what I remember he was ok on faceoffs.
Chouinard seems to be down on the depth chart, unless someone moves to the wing.
Demitra/Rolston/Koivu/Walz...

He had the best face-off percentage on the Wild. Around 52.5%. Closest was 46 or 47%. The Wild are not at winning face-offs.

We never really had him in a defensive shutdown role. That is Wes Walz's job. Chouinard scored 10 pts in 5-6 games to start the season then only put up 20 more over the remainder of the season. He was getting into the right spots at the right times throughout the season ... just burying his shots in goalies chest except for those first few games.

I see him as a face-off win guy that will do little else.

replace White for Rolston, Rolston only played center when the Wild had a string of injuries to the center spot and they were forced to put him there. Lemaire himself said he prefers to put Rolston at wing so he isnt tied up in as much defensive responsibility.

he is a ufa, probably wont be kept due to depth reasons.

He's a good team guy, does all the little things right, which is what you got to do when you are marginally talented.
