Mike Smith to a one year contract. This according to Andrews Stars Page

You probably thought it was someone big, didn't you

If Smith is the guaranteed backup wouldn't you think Dallas would sign him to more than one year? Not so much confidence in him after all????

He's a backup. Who cares. If he sucks, we'll find someone else next year.

Lucky the Hurricanes didn't feel that way about Cam Ward or Ottawa about Ray Emery. Backups have been known to save the day in the new NHL.

Yea...well this is Dallas. We don't even give our backups a chance.

Personally I think Hedberg covered Turco's slumps quite nicely last season. However, I think it's about time we brought up one of our goalie prospects; let's see how many games Smith plays this season. I'll say 15.

Don't know too much about Smith but it's definitely time to see what he can do. I'll guess he plays in 15-20 games (notice I said plays in not necessarily starts).

It's not like the teams spent any money or time thinking about their backup goalies. Sure, they stepped up great, but it's not like they were important parts of the team before they started in the playoffs.

Well I guess we'll find out how important the backup is if Marty goes down with an injury...

If the examples you point to prove anything, it's that you can win with any guy you find wearing pads if the guy gets hot at the right time.
