Blues GM says Habs in great shape for next season......

Hey guys, was driving home tonight, when Blue GM came on AM640 in toronto with Bill waters. They talked mostly about teams that made moves, and ofcourse the Blues, but the Blues GM was quick to note the Habs were very good in the playoffs this year, and are in very good shape for next season.

To say it like he said it, "watch out for those Habs next season......."

We fans bash our team, but other GM's are praising our team. Have some faith in Gainey, maybe he really does know what hes doing.

This is the kind of fan that keep whining that the team suck but when the team get to the playoffs, he keeps saying he is their number one fan!

BTW, Mooch thanx for the info... i believe in our team... I don't see the need to get some ufa, i believe in building a team with drafts and with guys that have the CH right on the heart...

It's great

Think about this everyone and still try to say the Habs won't be a better team next season:

- 65 games from Huet
- Higgins spending the full season on a scoring line
- Ryder playing healthy
- Komisarek continuing in the right direction we saw him end the year off with
- A full season without Julien having the "leash on the defense" as Dandenault might say
- Bonk playing in the contract year, don't expect an outbreak of offense, but look for a better showing than last year
- Same old brilliance from Andrei Markov
- Plekanec pushing Ribeiro even FURTHER for second line duty
- a more matured and progressing Alexander Perezhogin

Hell, even without anything else, we could even get gitty over the Huet point alone

haha, actually no, I'm probably one of the most patient fan out there that never said a damn word about BG's work... I've always been supporting our players and I believe most of my posts on this board proves it so go ahead and read it instead of judging me for no reasons... It doesn't make sense to me that you say that, I actually said that I believe into this team but according to some other fans, this team is going nowhere so I'm wondering what these fans have to say about what the Blues GM just said... Especially davey999 or something. Maybe you didnt read my post well enough ?

Bingo!!!

Add to that, Kovalev will be in his second full season as a Hab, and perhaps show more chemistry.

Habs aren't going anywhere without Koivu. Gainey better hope he is able to return to form and stay healthy, otherwise the team is in big trouble. They don't have a legit #2 centre.

Not that I'm not a Huet believer at all, but I'd prefer to wait a bit and see the 2006-2007 Huet before.

Théo was disappointing more than once when we were waiting for strong performances from him and let's not make the same mistake and think Huet instead of Theo equals 10 or 15 more points at the end of the season.

That would be too easy...

That said, I'm more comfortable with Huet in nets than I ever was with Théo.

About the other points, we're surely among the teams that will improve without new players coming from outside for the next few years, so I'm pretty confident too.

there's always two sides to these types of things...

Not that I dont agree with you for the most part, but let me play devil's advocate on a few points

- Huet is yet unproven in terms of how many games he can actually handle in the NHL. I dont know about that 65 games number

- Higgins falls into a sophmore slump? He, like ryder, struggled big time when koivu went down in the playoffs. I think the health of koivu which has been a problem forever will play a key role in higgins development this year. He doesn't look all that much of a scoring threat without Saku

- Ryder I'm not too worried about... even for a bad season, I think he can pot 30

- Yeah, I cant see Komi do anything but continue to progress

- A full season without Julien... I really didn't think julien deserved to be fired but I'm happy with our current staff

- Bonk can only go higher in terms of offensive production

- About markov, he better stay healthy for the majority of the season because nobody has stepped up on the backline when he is absent. We are just brutal without him

- I like plekanec and I predict he will be our most improved player pointswise. If I'm right, i beleive ribs will be eventually dumped for a pick.

- Alex Perezhogin. Seemed to find his game again playing with pleks. It will be interesting to see what happens with him. I dont know what to expect from him at the moment.

It will be interesting to see where kostitsyn falls into this picture as well.

Montreal COULD surprise if things go their way but as of right now barring any trades/UFA signings, I see another 6th or 7th place finish and a team nobody wants to play in the 1st round again.

The fact that the docs let Koivu go back to Finland soon after his surgery makes me feel confident that they are confident for a full and quiet healing.

I'd feel completely releaved when Koivu will eventually tell the media that he's fully healed when he comes back to Montréal.

I really like our team. I believe in them all the way. But I do think we need a n2 centerman. That's it. If we can somehow get that n2 center and also keep Aebi for the start of the year and have 2 starting caliber goalie, we will be rocking!

Now go Gainey, get that n2 center(LANG).
