When will we learn?????

The Habs will always be at a disadvantage when it comes to signing UFAs? Yet we expect Gainey to come up with big names year in, year out. Its not gonna happen folks. The taxes kill anyone playing in Quebec so thats a huge problem. Also you could probably count the amount of english speaking schools there on 1 hand. Very attractive in a English dominated league. Boston doesnt have a good reputation around the league yet they can sign UFAs and we cant should be an indication. The intense media scrutiny sure in heck doesnt help out case.

I think we should put some money into scouting/drafting. Thats our real only chance. But we will never build a winner via UFA market, take that to the bank.

well, Bob Gainey is the one who got our hopes up. he did say he had all the right tools to attract UFA in montreal.
looks like it didn't go the way he wanted

Do hockey players have dumb kids? It may also be seen as an opportunity to learn French by some.

This is an absolutely ridiculous statement and if anyone thought I was implying this, I am very sorry. A move like this is hard on kids and I am sure as parents they do not want to make it any harder

It is nice pointing the weaknesses of playing here, but has Bob done anything to present the positive ? I heard Toronto did a DVD which they gave to every agent outlining the benefits of living there.

I wonder if the habs have done something similar.

If I heard correctly, there was a part on the DVD that the narrator mentioned that if you decided to sign with the Leafs you don't have to worry about your hockey season dragging on into May and June.

build a contender through your system and trades.

Once we have a contender, then we can lure in some high profile UFAs that care about winning.

I dont think we can build a contender through the UFA market directly like some other teams.
