02-03 Roster

I figured I'd post something other then board full of "We should sign this guy or that!"

I was recently sorting through some old files on my machine and found a roster destop image I made for the begining of the 02-03 season. It's pretty lame compared to my later ones, but just looking at the roster I can't help marvel of how bad we were and played over our heads with true passion that season. (Yeah, I know there's some errors in positioning in the pic) Take a look at this roster. Only Koivu and Zeddy remain upfront. We had question mark up and commers like Ribeiro, Komisarek, Hainsey and an undiscovered Ryder. What a stockpile of prospects!

Look at the 3rd and 4th lines! Rediculous! Our bottom 6 have been such an improvement with great drafting and watching the waver wire.

I bring this up now because this was around the time we signed all those UFA like Czerkawski, Lindsay, McKay, Perreault, Juneau. Because we had to.

Doesn't it feel great that we dont need UFA!? We can pick and choose which of our abundant of prospects will fight for spots!

Our scouts deserve a big round of applause!

So true!

If you can, I'd like to see the 98-99 and the 99-00 roster. It'll hurt

wow i remember those days! and to think ppl are calling BG a bad GM

i applaud Bob and the scouting crew!
we dont need to drop 5 year 25 million$ contracts on gready players. bob is building from within, and with strategic smart trades. just wait till the signings calm down and bob moves in for the kill, he will pull a great trade

Good thing that you bring that up

People should try to remember those days... and even, I don't know if somebody has in memory the prospects we had at the time...

Perhaps the young blood here who constantly whine that Bob isn't doing anything should try to analyse those days and players... and compare them to the players we have today... so many things changed

It WAS pitiful... now it ain't anymore... so many good prospects up and coming

Yup I remember this time and Agree with you!

You can also laugh even more when you consider that Patrick Traverse played 65 matchs in this season since Souray (which is on your wallpaper) didn't play a game that season.

And what about our 3 heavy man.. Dwyer, Lindsay and Blouin that we had

If we could do like the Red Wings did, would be nice... just keep your prospects for yourself, never trade them... and ake them play. See what Dastyuk and Zetterberg became? If we could do the same with the Kostitsyn's, Perezhogin, Latendresse, etc. I think we could easily become a power in the league

we have great prospects, i am looking foreward to next season to see who can make the lineup!

BG and his staff are doing a fine job. it takes alot of time and hard work to correct the mistakes that Houle cost us in the past. I am very pleased with the job BG and the scouts have done, with the new coaching staff and prospects, i think this team is heading in a good direction.
maybe we should do a poll to see how long some of the ppl on this board have been habs fans

Those rank with the worst teams in Canadiens' history. Maybe only the late 30s/early 40s compares to how bad those teams were.

he was a goalie who bounced around a bit in his career.

Not a very good goalie but he was lovable and once in a while he would make some jaw dropping saves.

I remember one game where a buffalo player (Peca?) had a wide open net and freddy comes out of nowhere and stones him with his glove.

Andy Moog had just retired and Thibault had just been traded... so the goaltending situation became unstable but Theodore was not too far away so Chabot was just a rent-a-player basically.
