I dont want any of them. If anything were to come our way it would have to be via trade. I dont see any trades happening till after the season starts.

of those you bolded, I'd want Shanny and maybe Markov. Depending on how much he's looking for.

Is it legal for the team to not signing a free agent ?, do we loose a draft choice or pay an amend if we don't sign someone ?

for the price you have to pay them , they are may be dandy and available , but that doesn't mean that they are a good addition ;

It's only July 6th. It is still very early in the offseason. BG will make moves this summer, it just may take time. But the moves may not be big splashes...

BG won't overpay for UFA's, at least not excessively like the money being thrown at them currently, and I agree with that. Once the market starts to cool a little and dollars come down, we may see BG make a play. And there are still some opportunities out there:

Brad Isbister, LW, 29
Brendan Shanahan, RW, 37
Radek Dvorak, RW, 29
Michael Peca, C, 32
Sergei Samsonov, LW, 27
Danny Markov, D, 29
Petr Sykora, RW, 29
Konstantin Koltsov, RW, 25
Tomas Surovy, LW, 23
Anson Carter, RW, 32;

Now, I am not keen on signing anyone over 30 but if the fit works and the contract is no more than 2 years at appropriate dollars, then I am ok.

I would target Samsonov. I think he would really help the habs offensively and he is only 27.

when you think about it , we are there looking at a list of few names , to find THE PLAYER that is going to make our team contender . Now they are only 10 names that we considere .

It's like we forget that there are what , 600-700 players in that league ; why do we have to look to this little list of free agent , to find a good fit to our team ? i don't know ! May be we don't have to give player-'s -draft choice - to get them , but they cost soo much money to sign that they are not so much good deal .

I am sure that there are plenty of players that could help the Habs , that are not on that list , and that are not overpaid as much the ones we could sign , would be .

Markov seems nice, but there is a reason he has bounced around so much. There is also a reason he is still ouot there in a league crzed aout defense.

It's well known that he has a partying problem and has substantial connections to the Russian Mob. Do you really want that kind of player hanging around Kosty, Zhogin, and Markov?

There's also Morozov up in Russia who could be interrested in a comeback in the NHL

I'll take a chance on Daze... he will be healthy one day... but now I don't know !?!?!
Chouinard could be a great addition, especially since they talk about him last season. Both of these guys won't cost alot.

And yeah, Shany is tne main target, but I really doubt it !! I wonder how the Wings can let him go after stevie Y retirement
At the D, Markov is the best available...

and what about Simon to add some muscle !!

Will see, but now it's too long Bobby my man

Just wondering if Patrick Traverse' name next to the bolded name Svoboda was a freudian slip, missing him?

I Think He Should Look At Thomas Surovy Who Is Still Very Young And Is A Proven Nhl Regular, Also Koltsov Could Be Good For Some Extra Depth....and What About Tarnstrom? Isnt He An Offensive Defenceman That We Could Utilize?

I'd much rather leave room for our own young guys, like Perezhogin and Kostitsyn, let the others have those projects. We let Marcel Hossa go and he was better.

Danny Markov is about the only player that could meet Habs needs on that list.

1) Habs already signed 3 UFAs: Huet, Koivu, Bouillon. This is far from nothing. Decent prices too, considering the attrocious market going on right now. Equal value players are going for way more this week.

2) It's nice to sign a quality UFA in a position you need to fill, but there were some pretty slim pickings for what the Habs need, which are a big right handed center that can score and a LW with scoring abilities. Arnott & Elias were the best candidates but the Habs were not the only ones bidding and they went for tons of money (and who know if they even wanted to come to Montreal?) Shanahan would also be useful and if he doesn't come to Montreal it's be cause he CHOSE to go elsewhere (likely staying in Detroit) and not because Bob is not trying. Defense could use help, but it's not as critical and the 6 guys already on the roster can do the job for now.

3) Why sign UFA you don't need? Very diminishing returns considering the market.

4) If a trade is in the works, which is arguably the best way for the Habs to improve their roster, it doesn't have to happen immediately the first few days after UFA period begins. Bob has time to work things out. Time will soon be the enemy of all those GMs that overspent on UFAs and that have to get rid of quality players to come under the cap. Patience is important in this case. Signing a useless UFA only takes away the cap space needed to even have the possibility of getting a player from one of these teams in cap trouble.

Are we the only team ion the league that hasn't signed an UFA from another team yet? If not, what are the others?
