Dan Barnes, you da man

Best article on the Comrie situation I have seen for awhile now. Take that Mike.

Unfortunately I don't have a link, but go check out the front page of Journal Sports.

My favorite part was this not-so-subtle blast at Robin Brownlee:

Quote:
It was suggested by a sympathetic voice in this city that the deal would play out on Comrie's terms, that M.C. had the hammer because he could dissuade teams from dealing for him simply by asking for too much money.

That's a good one. Comrie apparently used that hammer to nail his own feet to the floor.
Nice shot, Dan!

very well said oh man what a writer. heres to you barnes . as for brownlee go suck a lemon. heres one article that gets the sour taste out of mouth after last nights loss. reality is i think comrie has made it harder for lowe to deal him. as the days go by, comries immaturity keeps me wondering if other teams want a selfish quitter on their team.

If I didn't know better, I would say Brownlee is being paid by Comrie. At least Barnes tells it like it is.

its nice to see a different view on this thing. fun read.

Sportswriting at its best!

Barnesian scribing at its leveled best. Straight and even cuts marked and executed with a high degree of workmanship. Conclusion born of patient observation and then summed exactingly: "Along the way he picked up a brush and painted himself into a corner, one that must be growing smaller and smaller every day. Much like Comrie himself."

"We've come to the conclusion they feel my play has kind of levelled off," Comrie told CBC interviewer Scott Oake. "It's a little bit frustrating."

In 29 other NHL cities, that's called negotiating, and Lowe was actually giving Comrie the benefit of the doubt if he actually uttered the "levelled off" comment.

The last time we saw Comrie play for the Oilers he was a fourth-line centre and a struggling one at that. That's not levelling off, that's plummeting.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Finally, an article on the Comrie situation that has an some sense of honesty and reality. A masterpeice if you ask me!

Cheers to Dan Barnes!

Ouch...

That was a good one.

I especially like how he:
1) Calls Winters and Comrie out on their desperation. Obviously there first tactic of dictating where he would go was a serious mistake.... It was obvious to most of us around here, so I'd have to really question Winter's ability to step outside of this situation and see the forest for the trees.

Add it up with Winter's earlier "NHL GM's just need to say "no" from time to time, Lowe and the Oilers are doing a better job of that", and one wonders whether he really understands what he is doing, and how he has made things WORSE for his client every time he's piped up.

2) Excellent point about Comrie forgetting what it took for him to get to the NHL as a small man. It's nice to see him call Comrie out on "small man syndrome", which is to over-react to criticism when he'd be better off doing what are the positives of SMS, that being to focus his resolve on proving everyone wrong.

I would say there is about .001% chance MC didn't read that column.

I'm pretty sure that somebody would have told Winters about it, although I would say there is about a .00001% chance Winter hasn't read it on his own.

He wants to see if he's getting printed so he knows how hard to smack himself in the forehead every morning.

I don't feel a need to spam. Lets let them look like the goof-balls in this drama.

cheers
