Hawks sign Arkhipov

OK, not my first choice as a FA. I'm not sure what to think here. How does this help?

Arkhipov

At least it is just a one year deal. Now we just have to hope that he can his 01-02 form again and score 20 goals.

It looks as though that "Useless Russian" book is open again, and Tallon is adding a chapter or two.

I'm expecting a Vladimir Chebaturkin signing to happen anytime now, followed by Sergei Berezin, with the one and only Krap-ovtsev as the big finish.

What a pointless (literally) signing, Arkhipov is.

Finally, I drive down twice a year to see the Hawks play vs. the Sharks, and now I have a reason to go to more games just to see this guy play.

Actually it's not a bad risk to take for one year but to be honest, does Tallon have to humiliate all the fans with his quotes on the player...saying he fixes the gap at center?

Id rather have Berezin than Arkhipov.

You guys just got a center that the Predators would not allow on the ice for their first ever playoff series in 2003-04. They thought so much of hime that he NEVER dressed for the series. Good luck with that........

with Vorobiev most likely gone, some Hawks fans needed another Russian whipping boy to blame for everything and the management more than delivered.

Well, playoffs is just a dream for the Hawks. The goal this season, is see how many 3rd and 4th liners one single team can have.

3rd and 4th liners on an AHL team maybe.... Arkhipov DOES have talent, but its about like Rick Ankiel, he forgot how to use it.

This is unreal...

I love that there are and were great players out there... and this is the kind of crap we dig up... I can't wait till 2009 or so when we have a decent team... Assuming all the young guys want to stay that long.

Yes but--TALLON personally scouted him in Russia and likes him,and assures us he is an NHL calibre player...are we going to deny the great talent asessment ability of our GM? Over the "amateur" opinions on this board?

I personally would have signed Alexander Giroux over Arkhipov.

I was starting to wonder when you were going to throw in your opinion on who you would've signed.

The hawks needed this guy. Just look at his stats... he has low PIMs (21 in 71 games) and he can score 20 goals a season ( Which is 7 better than any Blackhawks center did last year).

Sure this is no Elias but what are the Hawks going to do?

Last year they were second the league in PIMs, next to the Penguins, and they let up 88 Power Play Goals.

The last thing the Hawks need is some tough guy like Tie Domi who is just gonna make them kill off some power plays.

It is also for one year so I like it, it is a good pick up.

Say what you will... but if one is to go the sign out of Russia route - I personally can't think of a better free agent center option that Arkhipov.

Nikloshin in a 4th line faceoffs specialist role, maybe, but I think Arkhipov takes the cake albeit not a very big cake.

This guy was a total floater. Very weak in the offensive zone. Seems like a waste of money to me.

To think Arky regains his 20-goal scoring prowess is possible, but certainly not probable. He was invisible on the ice for us in his latter games. And it sounds like he hasn't improved.

He is not a solution to a center problem. At all.

He could turn things around, but there really is no sign of him doing it.

I would sign current UFA centers Yanic Perreault or Greg Johnson before I sign Arky.

Now with the Havlat trade, this move seems stupid. At least its only for a year.
