If we can't get Shanahan and if Recchi doesn't return to Pitts, I beleive that we should try and sign him.

It's the Ice chip section of TSN saying that Boston is out of the Shanahan race leaving St-Louis and Detroit. Technically, there is no word of MTL.

well...according to Spectors this morning...

"As for Brendan Shanahan, GM Ken Holland claims there's nothing new to report on his situation. It's believed the Kings are offering him a two year deal at $4.5 million per season while the Canadiens and Bruins are also offering deals worth over $4 million per."

"According to a knowledgeable source, the possibility of free agent winger Brendan Shanahan signing with the Bruins is now dead. Reportedly, St. Louis and Detroit are in the running for the 37-year-old's services. - Boston Herald"

I don't see Montreal anywhere in there. Kinda a misleading thread.

But if you actually go to the Boston Heralds webiste, they have quotes from the day before with Bs specifically saying they have interest in Shanny:

http://bruins.bostonherald.com/bruin...ticleid=147112

The actual article from the Herald TSN is quoting:

http://bruins.bostonherald.com/other...ticleid=147282

Again, Montreal is not mentioned at all.

Gainey has rumoured to have offered 8.8 over 2 years. That is too expensive for Boston. Also, St. Louis was reported as being out as well. It's Detroit or Montreal if you ask me. Unless St. Louis upped the ante and I missed it.

one thing is for sure though. with the time it's taking Shanahan, it's obvious he's not getting the money or contract length he really wants.

From what I hear from someone who apparently know's Shanny's brother, he says it's between NYR and MTL. He wants to go to Detroit but they don't want to bring him back unless it's cheap.

I dunno, probably BS.

Thanks guys.

I believe it will come down to Detroit or LA as an outsider.....If he takes his time to get as much money possible, seems by this that LA has a real chance. If not, they'll probably stay in Detroit. No move is often better than a move, ask Gainey....

Signing Shanahan is starting to seem like it's more trouble than it's worth.

Shanny may or may not be a good fit for us and for him. Depends. If Montreal made him an offer, looks like they're willing to accept his limitations as an older player. But from Shanny's viewpoint...:

On the negative side: We aren't major contenders for the Cup, he'd have to play against Kubina/Chara 16x as a left winger and with those two lining up on right defense, he might be counted on as a physical presence by the team and the fans when he's not really that kind of player anymore - at least consistently, and under Carbo we're likely to be more defense-oriented.

On the positive side: He'd have kickass linemates, we have an outside shot at contending, he's an excellent two-way player and would fit in well with any system, and the atmosphere in Montreal is second to none.

So either way, we're prepared to react if he signs or not....

Bring back Recchi! WOOT!

he was my favorite player back when we had him, always a hard worker. i know he is old now, but he scored almost 60pts playing in pittsburg, and im sure we can sign him for one year for cheap. he can teach some stuff to our kids, and he is great friends with Koivu, bring him back for a yr and then he can retire a HAB! i can finally wear my jersey to a game again!

Me too I love Recchi. HE would e a fan favorite (again) if he returns. If this Shanahan deal falls through then I don't see why Gainey shouldn't make a pitch for him.

There are defensemen who are as if not more physical out West. From Shahan's perspective, the negatives would be the usual ones ie taxes, media, languages issues, as well as Montreal not being a cup-contending team.
