I think the oil give up too much, especially with the salary increase we'd have to take. forget the draft picks.

Hmmm, I would consider it, but the Devils are looking to contend this year. They downgrade at center (even though Horcoff is good) and at defense (by quite a bit) with this move.

If the cap becomes a consideration, we won't need to lose both Gomez and Raffy.

Pick one, not both. Since obviously what the Devils take in return will be a downgrade, there is no need to remove a vital player from the offense AND the defense.

The Devils give up two important pieces to their division crown and its overpayment by the OILERS? Plus on top of that, our top young player? Keep it, we don't want any part to begin with.

Exactly.

Let's see. A 26 year old top end center with three Cup Finals behind him, and a proven top 4 dman on a Cup caliber team...for a good center who has had a single NHL season of notable production, a healthy scratch during most of the Finals and futures, including what will likley be a late 1st rounder...

Yep, way overpayment by Edmonton.

Only on HF.

Simplify it even more: How often does a team give up its #1 center AND its #1 defenseman and have it be a DOWNGRADE.

Take away the picks and mabey. We would be taken on alot of money and plus oiler fans are expecting Lowe prouduce a star with those picks. Trade those picks and it would make the pronger trade harder to take. With the picks at least we have something to look forward too.

Only on HF do fans get more excited about draft picks than established stars. The Oilers would do well to turn those picks into players half as good as Gomez and Rafalski.

Also, you would be trading the picks for a #1 center and a top pairing defensman, how does that make the Pronger trade harder to take?

Right now, there's 11 Edmonton trade proposals on the first page of this forum.

We would we trade for overpaid players AND draft picks when we can pick them up for free in the fa market?

You think Gomez is better than Horcoff because Scott was fortunate enough to play with Elias his whole career? Horcoff is better.

Niether one are UFA..How you picking them up? Next year? Or the Year after? When you'll be competing with 29 other teams And the New Jersey Devils who will have ZERO cap issues by then? (they will actually have a ton of space for the summer of 2007).

And meanwhile the Oil will still have to replace 1/3 of their defense and probably their checking line center and that got them to the Finals..........Ok,

Gomez put up 84 points not even playing 20 games with Elias. They weren't put together consistently up until the middle of 2002-2003 so they've spent about a season and a half on the same line. Plus, you honestly believe Gionta scores 48 goals without Scott?

Horcoff is not better.

Yeah, Horcoff's resume and talents totally blow away those of Gomez... in a land where unicorns and pegasus exist.

I can't believe on the one hand Oilers fans complain about not getting enough established players to build a contending team and then just refuse to consider this deal, which has a #1 center and #1 offensive defenseman coming back to them. Bergeron has a LOT of development to do before he can hold a candle to Rafalski and Horcoff has yet to prove himself to be as consistent as Gomez.

Not to mention Anaheim's picks will likely be in the 20-30 range.

No offense but that is just a dumb comment:

Gomez First Year Linemates: Claude Lemiuex and Sergei Brylin = 70 points (second in scoring on the team)

Gomez Second Year Linemates: Mogilny and Sergei Brylin = 63 points (4th in scoring on the team)

Gomez Third Year Linemates: A little bit of everyone = 48 points (Tied for 3rd in scoring on the team)

(bad year offensively for the whole team. The Trade of Arnott seemed to throw things out of whack for the whole team. Gomez play with Elias and Sykora and it didn't really work, Holik played Elias and Sykora and it didn't really work...Mogilny had signed with Toronto and Gomez never had a steady linemates in 2001-02)

Gomez Fourth Year Linemates: Gomez played time with Elias, Brylin, Grant Marshall play on his wing for a little while again another year with a lot of mixing and matching = 55 points (tied for second on the team)

Gomez 5th Year linemates:The EGG line came together Elias Giont Gomez = 70 points (second on the team in scoring)

Gomez 6th Year linemates: Only played about 20 games with Elias, played most of the season with Gionta and Parise/Brylin on the Left side.

Gomez has played about 1-1/2 of his 6 year career with Elias so far.
