The Russian radio station Маяк(Lighthouse, literal translation) is reporting that Mikhail Grabovsky has signed with the Montreal Canadiens, according to a news item that appeared several hours ago on the Sport Express web site.
The report gives no details, only a brief statement that reads, "Belarussian forward Mikhail Grabovsky, who played last year for Dynamo Moscow, has signed a contract with the Montreal Canadiens and will move on to a career in the National Hockey League."
The identical statement has also been posted on the Dynamo Moscow official web site.
Mikhail Grabovsky signed a three year deal with Montreal today. The young prospect has been speculated to be in negotiations with the NHL club after a highly successful Super League (Russia 1) season and a strong performance at the World Championships in Riga for the Belarus National Team. The young speedy forward signed a two way contract and will not likely return to Russia in case of a farm club reassignment.
As reported by Soviet Sport, centre Michail Grabovsky signed a contract with Montreal. The report started by saying that "leading players continue leaving the Super League". I hope we can get a look at him as soon as the development camp later this month and we may get a better idea of how close he is to the NHL.
The head coach of Dynamo has said that Grabovsky won't be back since he's going to be signed by the Canadiens and I recall Timmins saying the same thing somewhere recently. It's only a matter of time. Great to get him over here and look forward to seeing what he can do in North America.
i cant wait to see how effective his game in in north america
Mikhail Grabovsky's player profile, from Russian Prospects:
Mikhail Grabovsky is a talented scoring line forward who has speed, vision, skill and shooting ability as his primary strengths, with his lack of size (5-11, 180) and ineffectiveness in physical play as his primary shortcomings. Skating is definitely one of Grabovsky’s top strengths, with an above average top speed and very good acceleration. A gifted player with strong puckhandling skills, effective in one on one situations with opposition players and is imaginative with the puck. Has an above average wrist shot with a quick release and a precise slap shot with a quick release. Makes precise passes on the tape. Possesses an impressive vision of the ice, seeing plays developing and creating scoring chances for himself and his linemates. Returns to help out in his own zone and at times is even deeper in the defensive zone than some of the defensemen. Is aggressive and works hard to harass the opposition.
