Cleaning up some odds and ends before heading off for a week's vacation:

Grabovsky headed to Montreal: So far, the Canadiens have struck out in the free-agent market, but expect an announcement next week that Mikhail Grabovsky has signed a three-year deal. The 22-year-old from Belarus has had three solid years in the Russian Super League. The good news is the fifth-round draft choice from 2004 is a skilled player with good speed, but he's also another small centre, checking in at 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds. Look for him to start the season in Hamilton.

It would be 5 russian speaking, nice little gang too. We might have the surprise that Emelin will be signed too. I wish Kovy will give him a call and say: "Yo dude! Come play with me, we need your hard body checks over here!, Come on!"
He is bellorussian a little different language

I know its a little different. But I have many Belarus friends and Russian friends, and the comparison is like the French from Quebec to the French from France. Same language, using a different vocabulary and a different accent, but they can understand each other just fine when they make a bit of an effort.

To me, he looks better skill wise and he has the same aggressiveness to the game but i dont think he has the leadership qualities that makes Koivu the player that he is.

Don't know but there could be a problem with the contract cause Russia still has not signed the PTA. From the sound of it there's a problem from Malkin's team who are not happy with the amount of money they will get under the new PTA. The Russian Federation has already made a verbal agreement but have not signed the offical deal.

Don't know if this will have an impact on Grabovsky being signed or not, perhaps it could be a hold up.

Koivu could be faster if he wasn't injury too much to his knee. At his 1st season he scores 20 goals and was probably as fast as Bure was. Maybe Grabovski will be the koivu we never had because of the injury... I hope so and now we don't really need a captain with chipchura higgins fischer.

I don't see how this would have any impact. Last I heard, Grabovsky isn't under contract with any Russian team.

Grabovsky is lightning fast no doubt about it, a fighter for the puck as well, as you mentioned, he's really not the leader type but who cares really cause we have a lot of propects with leadership qualaties... ideally in the future he would one day become our next 2nd line center after we get a big skilled right handed center for our 1st line and Chip centering the third line

I am under the impression that in this new pta the nhl will pay the fees for every player that is signed, no matter if they are under contract or not. But I would need to research it more since it's new. One things for sure I haven't heard of too many Russians being signed of late other then Malkin. Don't know what the hold up is for Grabovsky, just guessing that it could be tied in with the fact that the PTA isnt signed.

With all due respect, how would you know whether or not Grabovsky is or will be a leader? He was a 21-year-old Belarussian playing in the Russian elite league, was he suppposed to be a leader on his team? Probably not.

In fact, quite different languages. However, Belarus has 2 state languages (just like Canada), so most Belarusians speak Russian fluently.

Can't wait to see Grabovsky play for Canadiens!

I really enjoy this news! Grabovski will likely start in Hamilton and and it's exactly the player we need to make sure Kostitsyn will get to the next level. I expect Kostitsyn to start season in AHL with Grabovski and they will dominate the league, until 1 of then will have a call from the Habs.

I'm not remember perfecly because I was young but I remember he was lightning fast! He scores almost all his goal on one on one or he goes around the D.

I could be wrong but it's what I remember.

Well.. Shanahan was the only FA I thought would make our team better, now he signed elsewhere, my only wish would be to have Emelin and especially Grabovski signed.
