How about Walker and Hall for Bell, we'll give you Nichol back too.

Trading Bell to a team we play 8 times a year is more than a bad idea.

I think this summer will not be the rule, and expect the Hawks are back on their way to elite status.
Darth, did you forget that Chicago was offering an extra $500K to sign? I think that AA was using the atheletes doublespeak to avoid making himself look mercenary.

I do love Chicago, and it is a great town to be a hard working professional athelete in. I just can't imagine the Hawks landing upper tier UFA's with the current ownership/management.

Atleast that way Hawk fans could see Sully and Bell 8 times a year.

True, but Gomez does these end to end rushes almost every game. He used to start with it behind the net until teams got wise and cut him off at the goal line. There are times I wonder if the Devils would ever get into the offensive zone with out Gomez, which makes his loss hurt even more, but at the same time, Gomez is becoming too rich for the Devils. Sometimes I guess you just have to let your children go.

You Devil fans who want to trade Gomez for Bell are out of your mind. Bell is a third line center. Matt Cullen and him had similiar numbers last season. I'll gladly take Gomez for Cullen and laugh all the way to the bank.

Gomez is soooooo much better. I can't even fathom the amount of alcohol it would take Lou to make this trade.

Just for my knowledge - how much was Lou drinking when he signed Malakhov, Almo & McGillis. That would give me a good baseline for figuring this out.

All kidding aside - everyone realizes that Gomez is a much better player than Bell. Before the salary cap, there's no way this deal goes down. Gomez is probably going to make $3-4M more than Bell next year, which the Devils aren't likely to be able to pay. This way - Lou would get a very good 2nd line player that is physical and plays a very solid overall game (although he has been inconsistent on a very bad Hawks team).

Would Hawks be interested in Handzus and Nedved(optional) for Bell and a pick?

Lou will be able to afford Gomez next ini 2007-2008 if Gomez takes a huge pay cut.

Trading Gomez at this point is a steal for Hawks no doubt.

Bell/2nd/midlevel prospect for Gomez and the Devils still lose but with the Cap situation it would be a good trade to look into
Top 5 centres in hockey?

Forsberg
Sakic
Sundin
Spezza
Crosby
Bergeron
T. Ruutu
Malkin

IMO, all of these players are better than Gomez.

Gomez is good.. but is not top 5.

Thornton, Forsberg are the undeniable top 2.

After those guys?

Demitra, Richards, Sakic.

In that order.

Chicago fans:

What would you be looking for in a deal with Edmonton for Aucoin? (And making sure on his salary: is it 5 million a season for the next 3?)

Four million. A top six forward, preferably a center.

The Hawks nabbed two good free agents last Summer in Khabibulin and Aucoin and still stunk all year long. No wonder no one wants to sign there this Summer. I feel for the fans -- Hawks management is probably the worst in the league.

While I agree that the Hawks are the worst organization in the league, both Aucoin and Bulin were hurt for some (Bulin) to all (Aucoin) of last year. One of the few things you can't blame Dollar Bill Wirtz for is Aucoin's bad groin.

$4,000,000 / year for Aucoin?

That's actually a lot better than I thought it was, especially given a lot of the signings this year.

Thing is, I think the only two players who could possibly be traded from the Oilers who are currently considered to be top 6 players are Torres and Stoll.

I can't see Torres being dealt, because this team needs his aggresiveness, and trading Stoll for Aucoin would just leave us with a big hole in the middle.

I know I'd trade one of Pouliot, Schremp or Cogliano straight up for 3 years of Aucoin.. but chances are I'm fairly lonely on that front from an Oiler POV, and by the sounds of it Chicago wouldn't be intersted anyway.

Arguing that Ruutu is better than Gomez would be like saying Niedermayer isn't an elite defenseman, it simply isn't true.

I sometimes think T. Ruutu is the most overated player on this board.

Really what has done?? I take Gomez over Ruutu in a nanosecond
