You guys would not do that deal, but We (Islanders Fan Here) would. I doubt you would do it for a second round pick either. Plus, he filed for arbitration, so unless he signs a deal before then, he can become an UFA next year. He could also stand to get a slight raise from his $2.05mil salary of last year, so he might not be such a great deal.

You guys don't really have what we need, which is a top pairing D man. I'd take Jason Smith, but I'm sure he's not available.

I mentioned this in another thread, but there was so much other stuff going on it that it didn't get much discussion.

one of York/Blake + Grebeshkov/Campoli for Raffi Torres

I don't think the isles need to cut down on salary and althought a 1st for York would be great,I think shopping York for a top 4 defensemen makes more sense.Someone to help in 2006-07.

If we'd been in charge we would've!

I mean, we did get Colliton and Joenssu out of it, so it's not like it's all bad. But I never wanted to see Torres get traded.

I would seriously be HEATED if EDM traded away Raffi, dude is a little cannon ball that hits everything on the ice and can put up 25+ goals.

This NYI fan prefers productive, in their prime NHLers to abstract futures, mid-round #1s. (Of course this runs counter to the typical HF overating of the value of a first-round pick - any first-round pick! )

At some point fantasizing exclusively about draft picks and prospects has to end and the idea of icing a competitive team has to start. Remember they drop the puck at center ice in October. Would be nice to win games.

Seconded!
This is becoming absolutely ridiculous, last I counted there were 14! Oiler proposals and "who should we sign/trade for" threads on the first page alone. Do they realize they have a board for just Edmonton discussion?

Well that's flawless logic, except at least 75% of these proposals are started by oiler fans. Sounds more like you know YOU'RE desperate when you have to hope and pray that you can get someone, anyone to play for your team.

Trottier wins again!

If I'm not mistaken, the Isles are trying to ice a competitive team this season. Trading our second line center (a 25 goal scorer who also plays some very solid defense) without getting a player in return isn't exactly in our best interest.

I don't think this is what EDM would use its pick on -- they need D right now more than they need O. And as an Isles fan, I would not do this for exactly the same reason -- we need D, not cap space. If we fall out of the playoff race I'd do this in a blink, but right now I'd rather have York as we don't need to clear cap space and we may still be able to piece together a run at the 8th spot or at least move him for D help.
