Looking at it a different way...

Rachunek replaced Poti and Ward replaced Strudwick. We'll see if that's a net upgrade, and further, this team needed more than a small net upgrade on defense.

better perspective but we'll see how they can handle playing for Renneys (player friendly) system.

I like to throw a k in there right after the g - just to make it especailly tricky to pronounce.

Rachunek has matured a bit since we last saw him in NY. I think he is gonna produce the offense we are looking for from the blueline. Has a great shot and can definitely pass the puck well. I think Rachunek is ready for NY this time around.

Rachunek/Ward/Cullen > Poti/Strudwick/Rucchin

and, IMO, Sykroa/Shanny is a wash

so yes, we've upgraded

Noone loves Poti. Must be a bit hard for him, although he makes a lot money, so he shouldn't think about it too much.
I still think he is a good offensive D. He has some problems in the Defense zone, but he is no Delmore. When you see what people write he must be even more worse than Delmore.
I wonder why the islanders pay him 2,75 mil/year...

Ths Islanders thread about the Poti signing has some pretty funny comments, none of them very happy. A sample:

"Don Cherry on Tom Poti a few years back:

'He could go into a corner with a dozen eggs and not break one.'"

I think our team did a great job in the offseason, Our D got More physical with Ward back there helping out Kaspa, Also I'm guessing Rachunek adds more Offence and Grit then Poti.... we should be Solid in D and have a few guys ready for a call up incase of injuries.

Our forwards Cullen is an upgrade over Rucchin, and Shanahan Adds some more grit and goal scoring ability in the forwards. This all gives us a potentially better PP units and secondary scoring while toughning up the team. Hollweg should really turn it on next year he improved his fighting and was viscious at hitting. I'm Kind of hoping Ortmeyer gets beat out in camp for someone who add more dimentions to their game then him.

Also Immonen and Helminen get a chance as they have more upside then Moore and Betts atm.

Aaron Ward's contract will seem like one of the greatest millstones around the Rangers neck for the next two years. You'll find him mistake-prone, and he'll be shopped by fans around here for nothing, less than nothing, and buy outs will be considered by next off-season.

Can't say I'm a fan of Mr. Ward. This reeks of Sather attempting to screw up a good thing. Hopefully for the Rangers sake, they don't return to their early part of this decade ways of big signings and little results.

I agree with everything in this post except for the occasional wayward capital letter.
