The Rangers are the most over rated team in hockey. I understand the fact that they have room under the cap space but this team will never win the Cup with Jagirl as their leader.
Keep spending Slats, makes you look real good when it comes to HOF TIME!

Yep. Aaron Ward, Matt Cullen and now Shanny. Look at Slats overpay.

BTW, he's already in the HOF.

Least they wait until thier contract is up.

Pssst...

Some players hate a city so bad they try to get out before the contract is up.

Really lame shot at Detroit

there is no grit and no toughness with this guy people

I don't think they will do it, but him on a line with Jagr would be pretty unstoppable.

disappointment and relief

i too hate to see shanney go, however, he is well past his prime, and the last couple years he has been so inconsistant. if he was consistant all season (2006), he'd of had 80 goals. i do wish him the best, for he is a great hockey ambassador and was a great aquisition by the wings at the time.

Put him on a line with Drapes and Franzen, not bad for a checking line that can also add to the offense as well.

Booter's stats from GR:
77 27 29 56 +18 390 11 1

I dont think Bootland's production will translate to the NHL... he is way too slow... a better prospect would be Kopecky who had a breakout year points wise and started to fight and hit people... he may be a second tier power forward for the wings if he hits his ceiling

Wings fans hoping Bootland sticks with a big club are just starved for some grit and anger on the roster. Unfortunately, I think Bootland's chances are slim and none, and we know where slim went. As far as Kopecky, his skating has improved to a point where I think he's the favorite out of himself, Bootland and Hudler to make the club out of camp.

I have to disagree. As a Ranger fan, the team's biggest lack is that of toughness, and he really is an upgrade, look at our other 6 forwards we had...Sykora-Rucinsky-Straka-Nylander-Jagr-Prucha...I think Shanny is an upgrade in the toughness area, and he can play alongside Jags and protect him

I just want to point out that Jagr can be pretty physical. I saw him lay some mean checks last year. The guy is huge and no one moves him outside of maybe a Chara.

Yeah when he got angry, he did get a bit physical, but I don't think we want that from our star, who is not known for his physical play

Good signing by the Rangers. Shanny fills their need for some experienced goal scoring. It's only a one year deal and cheaper than what was expected. I would definitely have liked to see him on the Kings for that type of deal. We can't play 2 or three rookies in our top 6 forwards and expect to make the playoffs. Sounds like NYR were in the same boat.

I'll be extremely pissed if he plays by Jagr any other time than the PP.

We need to have two scoring lines. Not 1 scoring line and 1 maybe-scoring line.

I would consider:
Shanahan-Nylander-Jagr
Straka-Cullen/Immonen-Prucha

2 scoring lines. Straka's passing prowess can now help Prucha out

Straka isnt that great of a center. He's too small. Immonen would be better suited there. Or Cullen.

Addition by subtraction. As a Wings fan, I'm so glad Shanny is gone. He'll be missed... but he wasn't worth anything close to $4 million.

I can't tell you how disappointed I am that shanny has signed with the rangers. I grew up watching him with the devils, blues, and detroit, he doesn't belong in NY. Grrr.

For a cash strapped team like Detroit, yeah it would be a tough sign but they offered him the same contract nevertheless. The Rangers had the cap room and still have approximately $6M more. What's the harm in using the money on a player that brings leadership, toughness (more than Sykora), scored 40 goals last year and can be gone next year if he doesn't perform up to a $4M contract.

For the Rangers the money isn't the key issue because we will not be using the whole cap. The years is the vital statistic and you can't beat a one year contract in this NHL. It provides flexibilty for the team in the future.

Well without a number 1 goalie we are not going to even come close to winning the cup so why would I want Shanny back when we can play some rookies who can help us when we are contenders again? Idiot.

No way does Shanahan score 40 goals in the Atlantic Division at this stage of his career with the NYR.
