Apparently, the Kings have the largest offer on the table for Shanahan - 2yrs, $9M.
Quote:
The local Detroit media is reporting that LA has the biggest offer on the table (2 years, $9 million), and that St. Louis and Boston both have offered deals paying slightly over $4m per year.

As another poster suggested, though, this could all just be a ploy to get the Wings to pony up more money. I can definitely see that being the case. If so, I'm going to lose a lot of respect for him. I'm already getting a little annoyed at this "game" of his. Just sign whereever you want to play, even if it's not the greatest offer.

It's a lot of money, but I wouldn't exactly be pissed off if he signed. It's nice that DL's bringing in or trying to bring in some people who have actually won at the NHL level.

Veteran winger Brendan Shanahan, who had 40 goals last season with the Red Wings, has narrowed down his options to two teams, Detroit and another unnamed team, a source said Friday. Boston and St. Louis are no longer in the running. Shanahan, 37, will mull it over this weekend and likely make a decision early next week.
I would imagine that the other team is probably the Kings, since a good offer is on the table from them and he came out to L.A. to meet with Lombardi. Of course, though, Shanahan may just use the weekend to squeeze as much out of Detroit as possible before signing with them.

Probably. I can't imagine the discrepancy between the offers of Detroit and LA is great enough to make him choose the Kings.

Like most you guys I'm happy DL is going after Shanahan. If, we don't get him then hopefully we can make a strong run at Samsonov. I'm glad DL is trying to bring in a top 6 forward. This just underlines our hopes of him trading some of our pieces to make cap room (Army? Kostopolous?)

We already know that either Labs or Garon will be gone. Hopefully DL will trade Labs and I think he will because he knows Cloutier's injury history and I'm sure he recognizes Garon's potential. But he might receieve an offer he can't refuse...

Back to the point...I would love to bring Shanahan to LA for 2 years 9.5 million. If, he scores 30 goals, 70+ points then he will be worth it. The leadership he will bring to help guys like Frolov, Brown, Cammalleri, O'sullivan/Kopitar would also be huge.

I wonder how much longer he's going to take. I have a gut feeling he's going to stay in Detroit.
Hold on...
Looks like Boston has upped the ante today..

shanny is still a good player, i wont bash him, he has his moments. Hes not physical really anymore, hes a pure sniper like player. Hes not a pure sniper like i did just say but in a sense of a sniper that doesnt do much physically... he could dish out 30 goals, but not more then 60 pts max id assume... his skating isnt bad but isnt thrilling, also 4 mill for even shanny next year would be a lot because his goals werent really huge ones last year. 6 gwg isnt a bad thing, but how many were 3-2 winners? no idea.... but hes not a bad player at all

Just one more of many, many conflicting reports.

I wouldn't give Dumbass Brooks an edge over any of the others.

Kevin Gibson (of hockeybuzz.com) says "Looks like the Wings will be announcing the inking of Shanahan and Belfour on Monday or Tuesday as nobody works weekends." No real surprise there.

I dunno. Here in LA I would KILL to have a paper that HAS hockey articles anywhere within its first couple of sports pages. Bullcrap or not, the guy knows a boatload of people and gets a boatload of inside info. Whether any/all of it happens is not always the point. He's respected enough to be a beat writer...

Remember the Chara to LA reports? This could be a print version of it.

Aside from that, I recall the last time a deal was actually announced as being done, only to have the league veto the trade. Several NY media breaking the story of Palffy being traded from the Islanders to the Rangers. Here are some links to articles, http://www.nytimes.com/library/sport...hkn-isles.html
http://www.nytimes.com/library/sport...hkn-isles.html

And read what columnist Ted Montgomery wrote regarding the said trade, http://www.usatoday.com/sports/hockey/shn/ted844.htm

But Shanahan playing alongside Jagr should be fun to watch.

For those of us that are hoping (praying?) that Lombardi has a 2-3 year plan to bring in some elite youth to complement the foundation already here, this is a great non-signing.
