Marleau is known as a 'soft' NHL player.....he lacks fire......Gomez is on the rise with a Stanley Cup Ring to boot!!

Marleau had his chance to be # 1 in SJ...he couldent do it....why??....because take away his stats and you have a 'softie'...hes no leader....thats why SJ got Thornton....

Marleau will be gone from SJ before the end of the 07/08 season....

Gomez is about to explode

Known as as "soft" player by who? I don't know about you, but if anybody had the chance to acquire Joe Thornton they would, not just San Jose. Gomez is a better player offensively IMO, but I still disagree with you.

I would take Gomez over Marleau any 12 days of the week.

You are nuts. Marleau would be a #1 on most NHL teams.

It's not the Gomez angle that we are really disagreeing with. It's your berating of Marleau that seems to be totally ludicrous.

Soft?

Go back and look at Marleau's playoff numbers the last two years.

Soft?

He's the Captain of the Sharks!

Get some toothpicks next to your nightstand and when it's 11:00 P.M. Eastern Time during the season and the Sharks are playing a home game, keep those eyelids open and watch the dude.

There is hockey on the West Coast!

Just out of curiosity, knowing that the Devils would probably NOT deal both Gomez and Rafalski, what would you Devils fans think of this offer value-wise? Fair, unfair, wildly off-base?

To NJD: Robbie Schremp, Brad Winchester, MA Bergeron, ANA 2007 1st
To EDM: Gomez, Rafalski

Edmonton can't afford to do that and NJ probably wouldn't do that. Doesn't make alot of sense from either side IMO.

Simplify it:

Gomez for Stoll +

or

Rafalski for MAB +

Depending on what Jersey decides to do regarding their signings, I see one of these making the most sense. They might lose one of their core players, but they won't lose two.

As I mentioned, I would doubt as well that New Jersey would move both, but I'm curious by what you mean that the Oilers can't afford to make that trade. Do you mean financially? Or asset wise?

LMAO, is this a joke? Marleau was the #1 center, why isn't he now? Joe Thornton came to town. Give Joe Thornton to ANY team and he will be the #1 center.... it's not the other player's fault.

"Softies" do fine, especially in the new NHL. Look at all the Lady Byng winners- you think they suck? Hell, even Thornton doesn't play tough... which is why he was criticized in Boston.

BTW, Marleau is still the captain and leader... notice the C?

Yeah, financially.

Smyth (3.5) - Horcoff (3.5) - Hemsky (3.5)
Torres (.8) - Gomez (5.25) - Lupul (2/2.5?)
Moreau (1) - Stoll (2) - Pisani (2.5)
JFJ (.6) - Reasoner (.95) - MAP (.95)
ex (.5)

= 27.5-ish

Rafalski (4.2) - Smith (2)
Tarnqvist (1.6) - Greene (.75)
Staios (1.6) - Smid (?)
Hejda (?)

= 10-ish + Smid/Hejda

Roli (3.6)
Jussi (.8)

= 4.4

Overall...we might be looking at 41-42 mil with this lineup with a couple of spots yet to fill...and I don't imagine we'll spend more than 39-40 tops. I just went from the top of my head...so I could be way off here....and obviously this is very rough math and alot of guesswork as to what guys will make, but I don't see how this works. Stoll would probably have to go back the other way in your original proposal, and Staios might have to be moved in a separate deal too.

I could be way off though....How did you have everything?
