Koivu and Begin $ cap hit?

I'm sorry to start a new thread for this but I did not know where to post this and I'd like to know.

Koivu was winning 3.4 or something close to this last year. Sign a new deal at 4.75 a year for 3 years. My question is: Was it a new deal or contract extention. If it's the ladest, his cap hit would be 3.4 + 4.75 + 4.75 + 4.75 /4 years = 4.4125, not the whole 4.75.

The same can be said for Begin. Will it be a 1mil$ cap hit or less. He was making 600K last year. 3 + .6 = 3.6 /4 = 0.9mil$ cap hit.

If it's the case, we save .725mil$ of cap space.

It's not a big difference or issue I know but I'd still like to know if anybody does.

I asked this question a while ago before the new CBA was released to the public. Contract "extensions" are considered entirely new contracts for cap hit purposes when they begin.
