In this mockdraft, you are builing a franchise. All GMs should draft their teams to be a force starting with their first season, but continuing for many seasons to come. There will be 15 teams and the draft will be conducted in snake fashion. Each GM will have 24 hours to pick, and after their pick will Pm the next GM. You can draft any player who has already been drafted by an NHL team or played at a proffesional level (ie NHL, AHL, or ECHL). Trades are allowed, but all must be confirmed by both GMs in seperate private messages. Please indicate what slot you'd like to draft in and your team name when signing up.

You say that we should expect this team to be competitive for several years. Can you give a more accurate time frame. I am basically assuming at this point that we treat the draft as if all NHL teams are redrafting with the expectation that we are playing until the NHL folds.
This means that we should take time discounting into consideration but that is about it with regards to future seasons.

Should salaries be taken into consideration?
It is basically starting a franchise. YOu know how people often say that if you were starting a franchise, you'd want that guy on your team? Draft like that.
not unless they have been drafted by an NHL club or formerly played for an NHL or AHL club. Why you'd want to pick a former NHLer in Europe I don't know, but it is legal.
Once this is over, we'll decide what we want to do. If people want to keep going and make it into a fantasy team, I'm all for it, but I didn't want to make this a draft for a fantasy team since then you would look at points first and players second. I want to draft a franchise, not a team that will get you points. At the conclusion, though, we will have a vote for the fate of the draft.
