Is Gary Roberts willing to join the Habs?

I know Gary Roberts asked to be delt to Toronto to be near his daughter (if I recall correctly). Apparently, Toronto isn't willing to trade for him. Therefore, since Gainey didn't sign Shanahan, would Roberts be a good insertion for our club? Considering his salary (2,25M$) and his propencity for injuries, he represents a risk, but still, he would bring part of what Gainey would have expected from Shanahan... plus he is a LW.

No chance, not worth the risk, rather play the young guys.

Roberts would be ok, probably. His salary isn't that bad, and he's on the last year of his deal. He actually didn't do too badly last year either, getting 40 points in 58 games, which is consistent with this ppg ratio since the late 90s. His veteran presence would probably be a plus for the club too, what with all the youth around. It's the sort of thing where at the start of the offseason I would have said "there are better things to spend your cap space on" but now I say "Why not? There's nothing better to spend the cap space on"

However, I have serious doubts Roberts wants anything to do with the habs.

He only wants to play for Toronto, and maybe, if desperate, the Ottawa Senators.

Montreal doesn't want him, and he doesn't want to play here.

To compare him to Brendan Shanahan is to insult what Shanahan has done in his career.

Roberts is mythologized in the Toronto media, the reality is the guy was a big reason why the Leafs dressing room was divided. He's far from being a "leader."
