1 year contracts

I'm curious to know why we are seeing all these one year contracts. Is it normal because it seems like almost all the yonger players are only getting the 1 year stuff....

Can anyone shed some light?

Here is a list of what I was able to come up with.

Montreal-

David Aebischer - Signed a one-year deal $1.9 million
Mike Ribeiro - Signed a one-year-deal $1.9 million
Mike Komisarek Signed a one-year deal $946,900
Christopher Higgins Signed a one-year deal $673,000
Yann Danis Signed a one-year deal Undisclosed

Aebischer signed a 1 year because we aren't planning on keeping him longterm and I think he's a UFA after this contract is up.

Ribeiro signed a 1 year because he wants to have a good season and negotiate a better contract (he said so himself right after he signed).

Komo and Higgins are limited in what they can receive, I think it's a max of $1 mil. They opted for 1 year deals because a long term deal makes no sense for them at this point because they can easily earn more once the restrictions on their salaries pass.

Danis probably the same thing.

That makes sense.

Because if we take a look across the league I think we have the most players with just a 1yr contract.

I was thinking maybe BG wanted to test out the young guys before offering anymore then what they are getting now. But at the same time, it would be risky to sign them to 1 years, then again Ithing they become RFA after that...right?

In the guys we signed for one year, there is Aebischer that is a UFA for sure, then Danis, Côté & Jancevski can also be UFA if they don't play a certain number of NHL games this year

Danis need to play 23 games (in which he played 30 min+) to be RFA,
Côté need to play 72 games to be RFA,
Jancevski need to play 78 games to be RFA

By the way, the numbers on the Danis contract have come out on the NHLPA website.

He's going to make $543,400.00 in 2006-07. That's less than what he made last year on his two-way contract, so I'm assuming it is a one-way contract this time.

Thanks for the info.

Tis makes things that much momre obvious that their will be atleast one of Abi or Danis that will be heading out of town since Danis needs to play 23 games or else we can lose him to the UFA market. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Plus there's no better way to get 100% out of your players then a contract year

Woohoo 300!
