NHL to introduce a new term

Apparently, OT goals will now be known as "Skate-off" goals

NO source, but I'm hearing it on TV, Radio and other boards.

Thoughts?

Baseball has walk-off homers, but skate-off goals for hockey sounds weird.

It was only "suggested" to the media. The NHL asked the media to consider changing "sudden death" to "skate-off". Yet another lame attempt by Buttman and his cronies to change Hockey into Basketball.

What's next, a "one-timer" should be called "play-action"?

Sounds to weird. And it really it not a skate-off is it? It is a shoot-out.

Skate-off sounds like a dance competition on ice. So if we win in the "Skate-off" do we get to say the other team got served?

It means when a goal is scored in OT, the game is over and the players "skate-off" the ice to the locker room. It would apply in shoot-out only if the goal scored puts an end to the game.

If you really want to stop using "sudden death", what about "match goal"? (by analogy to "match point"). IMHO it's already better than "skate-off"

I don't like the term, but how exactly does it make hockey closer to basketball? I don't recall "ball-off" or "court-off" in NBA lingo.

would apply better when a player scores with his skate

I'm all for it, but only if we can call a regulation goal a 'shoot in' and a line change a 'personel replacement'. Yay ou nay? Maybe we can call an open ice hit an 'oops-e-daisie'.

are you sure maybe they meant the shoot-out goals to be called skate-off goals...It would make a little more sense but would be lame just the same
