Niklas Kronwall Trade Value....

You read a newspaper article that says Kronwall is available and your team is interested.

1) Would you want your team to trade for him. Why or why not?

Your alseep in front of the TV, you wake up just in time to see .... traded for Niklas Kronwall to your favorite team on the sports ticker right before they start listing a seemingly endless parade of golf scores and college basketball games.

2) As you scramble to find out what happened, whose names do you expect to see going the other way?

Niklas Kronwall, 25 yo, 6-0, 195, Sh: L
2 Regular seasons = 47 - 2 - 12 - 14... 44 PM, +16
Playoffs = 6 - 0 - 3 - 3... 2 PM, 0

Contract situation:
06-07: 1.14 M
07-08: RFA
08-09: UFA

from the Preds? ... nobody, because I don't see Poile jeopardizing the future careers of Weber, Suter, Parent, Klein, Franson on a division rivals roster

Oh and any reply to the thread needs to take into account the state of the Wings. His importance to their future blueline is far greater than his value simply as a player.

1. Yes. Because the Oilers need defensemen.

2. I'd assume one of our higher end forward prospects + one of our defensive prospects at least.

Wayne Gretzky.... maybe Bobby Orr?

honestly, I don't see the Wings dealing Kronwall given their situation overall on defense (the players they have, the stage in their career, the pipeline of prospect dmen, and Kronwall's current performance and ability combined with his salary).

He seems like the perfect tranisition dman you want between Lidstroms last years as a wing, and Kronwall's development with the organization.

his trade value? I'd guess a late 1st with a decent prospect, or in a trade for an established top 4, while better than Kronwall now, but who's maybe a couple yrs from UFA... I don't however think that the Wings would consider dealing him for anything close to fair value...

Detroit fans are going to hate to hear this but I think his value isn't nearly as high as they wish it was. Injuries in three straight years limiting games to less then half a season makes him an unknown in the trade market. Does he have talent? Ya, a flippin boatload. Yet why would I give up something of value for an unknown. Am I to assume that he will become a good player, already 25, later in his career?

I'm not sold on him and until he plays 65+ games.

according to some in Detroit, Kronwall is the most untradeable player in hockey

In all honesty Detroit values him too much for any team to justify a trade since our defensive depth is nill.

As an outsider, I would value him as a top four NHL defender who plays a complete game.

As A Wings fan, I would say he is one of Three-Five untouchables on the team and will be a major part of our core for years to come.

A player like Kronwall wouldn't get anything even remotely close to what he's worth to the wings.

No I was just saying that with our current situation and the defencemen that we have I would not trade Kronwall for Vanek. I know Vanek will be a great player someday and he is more of a safe bet then Kronwall but I do believe Kronwall can/will win a norris but I guess that is just me.

What has Nik Kronwall shown that justifies people calling him a top 4 defender? I haven't seen much of him, but what has he done at the NHL level that makes him so hot?

Can? Yes...Will? Probably not competing against guys like Pitkanen, Phaneuf, Bouwmeester, Seabrook, and Meszaros for his entire career. If I was in Detroit's position I wouldn't trade Kronwall for Vanek either but some people act like Vanek is just some toss-in in a trade which is ridiculous.

It is not so much what he has done in the NHL as he has been limited due to two injuries, but what he has done everywhere else and the potential he shows in the limited NHL games he's player thus far.

I'm trying to guage what another team would realistically offer... not what Detroit might ask. As I've already got a vague idea based on Red Wing fan posts in other threads.
Hopefully, we don't see to many extreme posts like 7th rounder or the Chris Pronger package.

In the case of the second scenario from your original post:
Quote:

I would have to believe it would be either Nabokov or Toskala from the rumors.

It's been two injuries, and one of them was a complete fluke when he caught his skate in a rut in the ice. The other one was caused by Hinote in a preseason game last season.
