Well I'm sure we'll know the reason soon enough. Everyone is coming up with their own wild conclusions but no one really knows anything yet. It could be health related, Smith could be involved in some wrong doings, or maybe he pissed in his bosses coffee?
If its true that Mike Milbury is still running the show, I hope that Mr.Gainey takes this has a sign that he should offer Ribero and Bonk to the isles for Trent Hunter and Shawn Bates.
Well it could be a few different things. Smith didn't want to bend over for Mad Mike and let him control things or Smith and Nolan weren't seeing things eye to eye.
I can't believe it...that is one weird turn of events for the Islanders. Nolan was blacklisted by GM's for a long time, then he finally gets his chance and his GM is fired?
I guess that's the last time they hire a GM and a coach at the same time...
have you seen the stupid moves mad mike has mad? the guy stilll plays a prominent role with the organization and he was probably barking asinine orders to smith, who refused to oblige...essentially getting fired.
that's how i see it.
"okay neil, trade Dipietro, Zhitnk, Robert Nilsson, Grebeshkov, Okposo and 2 first rounders for sergei federov....you see neil, for you to keep your job you must do something to overshadow my yashin trade"
I wonder if this has anything to do with Peca signing in Toronto - the timing does seem strange. I wouldn't be surpised if the owner(s) felt Mr. Smith dropped the ball on this one. Just a thought.
On TSN.ca they say they've hired GARTH FN SNOW as his replacement.
wow that's a first a backup goaltender that calls the shots. i can see him sitting on the bench while a game is on....yashin makes a giveaway and calls ken holland "you like russians right?"

Well, let's hope Smith comes back to work for TSN, at least, and decides to be a bit more forthcoming than usual about all the hijinx on the Isle. A weird statement by the owner about having Snow lined up for months? If they wanted a puppet, why hire Smith in the first place? Bizarre. Well, if it ultimately means one more team out of the Eastern Conference playoff race due to sheer managerial chaos, then hey, I'm all for it. I wonder what Tom Poti and the rest of Smith's signings are thinking? Happy with your new contracts boys?
