Over on Hamilton's site I posted something about hearing rumors that we would not be back with Long Beach. I hear rumblings about the costs to move players, so it made sense to change things, especially after the Ice Dogs made a big change, getting new ownership and coaches. This is what I wrote,
"Still waiting to hear if the Habs/Dogs will re-affiliate with Long Beach. I heard some talk about a possible change due to financial concerns about the cost of recalling players. But nothing from any sources I take serious.
The changing of coaches and owners in Long Beach may or may not have an impact on that decision since Coach Cameron seemed to be doing a really good job down there, considering they were a very poor team the year before he joined the club, then next year he replaced the entire roster and he was aided from Hamilton/Canadiens players, but took the team to at one point 3rd in the ECHL overall. Too bad he lost his MVP like goalie and had to go to Michaud and almost fell out of the 3rd in the division, riskking not even making the playoffs. Centomo was brought in and took over at the starter, did a good job I thought, surprised to see him spend most of the next season in the UHL.
I assume that the Habs/Dogs will be back in Long Beach but moving closer also makes sense"
what do you mean by the cost of recalling players exactly?
Travel expenses. The move likely cuts travel costs in half. the Cyclones have been out of the ECHL for the past 2 seasons and are coming back to the league this year but so far don't have any players, so it will be interesting to see how the team shapes up and what if any of our prospects end up there. Guys like Bonneau, Dulac, Gleed, Stewart, and maybe Urquhart could be guys that are ECHL bound but I hope to see Urquhart make the Dogs.
