I think realistically its 70+ pts, I dont see them under 70 pts, now can they get 90? yeah but a lot of things need to happen. 1st and formost HEALTH, 2nd Frolov needs to be consistent and score 30+ goals, and have the youngsters like O'Sullivan really prove they belong if that happens, and BIG IFS, then I think they can make the playoffs but right now I dont see it.

...

I'll say the Kings have a same kind of year, just without the huge collapse. They'll fight for the last playoff spot and just fall short. Even so, i feel much better about this team this year compared to last. Scoring is definately a big concern though.

I'll reserve judgement....there are so many variables in play right now that I wouldn't feel comfortable with any response.

I think this team will be the opposite of last year.

They will start off slow and get better as the season goes on. I think they'll will probably end up missing the playoffs though.

But if the kids step up anything can happen...

I honestly don't think that's far fetched at all. Like i said, i feel more comfortable with this team. Blake should be a huge addition. He helps plug a lot of the holes the Kings had last year like in their powerplay, penalty kill, and just overall defense. Plus i like the gritty players they signed also.

Health is obviously a concern as it always is in Kings land. Demitra is a big loss though. You don't replace your leading scorer with rookies, no matter how well they do.

I said 70+. They won't be as good as last year in the first half of the season but they won't collapse at the end either.

Right now we know that Frolov, Conroy and Cams, The 3 should get over 20 + goals... After that I think we have lots of 10+ goal scorers, EBEL, Avery, McCauley, Wilsie, Visnovsky, Blake, Thornton, O'Sullivan... Well the Sabres used that to get to the Eastern Conference finals, a balance attack, this could be the model of the Kings.

I'm hanging my hat on the fact that this team will battle for each other and not quit like last season. I don't care how a team looks on paper, that stuff is for the roto geeks. I trust DL and company.

I said that no one "expects" the Kings to be in the playoffs. That's not the same as optimistically guessing that that they will be there, anyways. I'd bet that many Chicago fans vote every year that "this is the year that we'll return to the playoffs," but do you really think that they ever "expect" it?

That's exactly my feeling, as well. I'm not comfortable making predictions like this this early. Any choice is a wild guess at this point.

Way too early, but I'm comfortable enough to say they could finish anywhere.

The thread does not say....give your optimistic view of where the Kings will finish? It says ......

"With what we have as of right now....where do you think that the kings will finish?"

I didn't think I would have to do this but you leave me little choice.....

dictionary.com's definition of expect......

EXPECT: To look forward to the probable occurrence or appearance of.

Synonyms:apprehend, assume, await, bargain for, bargain on, be afraid, believe, calculate, conjecture, contemplate, count on, divine, envisage, feel, figure, forecast, foreknow, foresee, gather, hope, hope for, imagine, look, look for, predict, presume, presuppose, reckon, see coming*, sense, suppose, surmise, suspect, take, think, trust, understand, wait for, watch for

Expecting something does not make it so......expectations are often not met in life.

Now I know you are a smart man so let's not argue the semantics.

I said 90 plus, but the key IMO will be special teams. I think Crawford and his crew will put us around 10th in the league in each category. That combined with being about the same caliber team we were last year will put us a little higher and in the playoffs.

To early to guess. Wait until the teams are determined at the end of training camp then an intelligent guess can be made.

You should know better than to think that all of those mean exactly the same thing. Does "contemplating" something mean the same as "expecting" or "hoping for" it? No, but we'll play your game for a moment. Since you've previously acknowledged that there's a 5% chance that the Kings will make the playoffs, you have, thus, "contemplated" ("considered as a possibility") the Kings making the playoffs. According to your misunderstanding of connotations, then, that means that you also "expect" that the Kings will make the playoffs. I guess you're right that there is someone who expects that the Kings will be in the playoffs, afterall.

We've been arguing semantics all along, ever since you decided to use a word with an improper connotation to (mis)characterize posters' thoughts in a way that aided your argument.

Kind of like how i said Demitra was the leading scorer for the Kings last season, but i didn't really mean he was? Nevermind...

Throughout this entire argument you have insisted that "No one" expects the Kings to make the playoffs and that it is just "wishful thinking". Then in your definition of expecting you said that it would mean that the person would be upset if the Kings were not playoff bound. Even after making that your guideline there were still people who said that yes indeed they would be upset if the Kings didn't make the playoffs.

You just seem to be a little bothered by the fact that you claim that no one expects the Kings to make the playoffs is not true. And instead of admitting that you made that comment in error you continue to argue that point even with overwhelming evidence to contradict that.

If it makes you feel better I will say that the majority of Kings fans do not "expect" them to make the playoffs. But if you have followed this team for any length you would be naive to believe that there are not those that expect the Kings to be in the playoffs. No matter who is on the roster.

I have faith in this team, unlike previous years this team is built for the pressure games, if they are in it for a playoff spot come the end of the season I dont see them dropping it like in the past.
