Really depends on the context...

If its a attempt to injure with clear intent either the captain, franchise player, goaltender...it justified...pride over all else...

It's sad to say, but that is the one of the very few areas where baseball beats hockey

Even if they are allowed, I doubt many coaches would let their players go, and I doubt there'd be any need for one.

I think there's a 100 000$ fine for teams participing in a bench clearing brawl.

So now, you don't have those anymore, what you usually have is a line brawl, that will be followed by another fight, followed by two subsequent fights minutes later in the game (ala Senators vs Philly or Ducks vs Flames in 2001)

Once in a while it's fun to see guy's defending each other.I remember the Ottawa Philly game 3 years ago and it was awsome. We need at least 1 per season to bring the guy's togheter

I'll go with "outdated". They were plenty of fun in the good old days, but I don't think evolution is necessarily a bad thing. Mind you, the league is pretty stupid to think that taking brawls and fighting out of the game is actually good for business, but whatever. Players are probably growing up too in many ways, and I don't know how easy it would be for them to go full-scale anymore like they used to, even if there weren't rules and suspensions to act as a deterrant. Equipment is so much better, so many more visors, so much more at stake financially with injury risks... it's just not really an option anymore.

It'll be kind of fun to share the memories with the kids and grandkids... you know, like the older generation was so tough because they played with newspapers for shinpads and the goalies wore no masks, etc, well hey, back in "our day" the players would fight 20-on-20, nobody wore visors (or helmets) and everybody broke solid wood sticks over eachother. A bit of our own niche in history.

The NHL has taken measures to reduce their frequency, but I believe they never really left. What's gone is that level of passion that leads to these. I would suspect it's at least partly linked to the fact that players change teams quite a bit more nowadays. So rivalries don't get an opportunity to simmer to the levels they achieved in the past.

Its also 10 games if someone leaves the bench during a fight, and 5 games for his coach.

These are automatic suspensions.

I kinda disagree. For the most part, in hockey brawls every guy partners up and they fight. In baseball they just kinda get together and make it look like they're on the dancefloor at the Dome fighting over the same teenybopper. Looks like a rave more than a fight. Plus, in hockey fights they actually fight. Baseball players tend to just slap one another like adolescent girls, and then run away.

In a basebrawl you have to get in that first punch when you charge the mound cause a basebrawl usually only has 3-4 punches tops.

lets work on getting rid of the 'instigator' and 'fighting within the last five minutes' first...

I would like to comment, but I believe this is exactly what I would say, so.....

When was the last you saw a bench clearing brawl in hockey? That's all i'm saying. If we are talking about one-on-one fighting, then baseball doesn't come close to hockey. But you see a good 5 brawls per season in baseball.
