As he will be his entire career, Zbynek Michalek (especially with him signed to a 4 yr/ $5M contract) is underrated and hopefully will continue to fly under the radar....as he replicates a similar career as Teppo Numminen.

I don't care if he is 25, you have to throw Nik Kronwall into the mix...this guy is good.

I think with time, another one that might just crack the top ten could be Brett Lebda

Kurtis Foster above Paul Martin. Wow.

I would like to know how many of the guys on this list are already playing on their teams top defensive/shutdown unit and doing a good job there? This is the unit that routinely faces the Jagr and Forsberg-esque players of the league.

I dunno, I really feel like Paul Martin is very undervalued outside of Devils circles.

No particluar order:

Bouwmeester
Gleason
Hamhuis
Meszaros
Michalek
Morrisonn
Phaneuf
Pitkanen
Seabrook
Tyutin

Carle and Whitney should be in the forwards category.

Just because a defenseman is skilled offensively does not mean he is a liability defensively.

Why would we do that? This is HFboards my friend and as we all know prospects are always better than current players

Well, for one, I'd like to see him do it again. I just don't see that upside at the moment.
How many of these defensemen have done it again?

I've chosen players who have played at least 1 season in the NHL.
