Hopefully Slats is working on a multi-year deal with him... I don't want Ranger management to make him feel like he's not the future on our blueline.. And a plus to signing him now would be that he could be had alot cheaper than he would be after possibly having a breakout year.

Disagree. I want to see more before I commit to him on a long-term deal.
you commit him to a long term deal now and it's not going to be a very expensive long term deal. you commit him to one later, and it could cost you more
at this stage, he's not gonna cost a lot of money no matter what. he made like $5-600k last year. You think he's gonna get a huge raise? hell no.
these are the kind of players I don't mind multi-year deals with
I really liked him on the blue line last season with Kasper. He was shakey at times(final game of the season against ott) but for the most part he held his own. I wouldnt be opposed to sign him for a 3-4 yr deal at around what he was making this season. I think he definitly should be the face of our defensive corp for seasons to come.

because Tyutin's delusional about the season he had last year, which was not atypical of a 22 year old, but his flashes of brilliance seemed to have been met with equal or more flashes of a kid who still has a ways to go.
I think we shouldn't read too much into this...it's still only July. Calling a player delusional is a little harsh when there's still months left before training camp even starts.

with so many talented players, as you know Edge. All the talent, but don't have the head to put it together (not saying Tyutin won't, he's only 22, but my one issue with him is consistency and intensity, and I think he had similar issues in Hartford too). Renney challenged him and he responded, but that only lasted so long, and he finished the season with such a whimper. But again, 22, first NHL season; can't be too hard on the guy.
i think 4 for 3 is too much right now since he still has lots to prove on and off the ice. I would do 4 for 4.5 @ 800k, 1, 1.2, 1.50. I would offer him performance bonuses too, but no more than 250k worth per year.
The Rangers will continue to hold the rights to Tyutin, either he signs with the Rangers or he plays in Europe and Sather holds off on trading him until he gets a great deal. Regardless of what Tyutin chooses, the Rangers will continue to hold his rights and won't just give them away if he's unhappy with playing for the Rangers.
In any case, I doubt he'll even be offered a long term contract (more than 2 years anyway). While Tyutin certainly played well enough as a rookie to go into training camp with a spot on the roster for him to lose (as opposed to last year where he had to win the spot to make the team), he didn't set the world on fire. Sather has a long history of playing hardball with young players and Tyutin has absolutely no leverage, especially because of all the young defensemen in the system who are getting closer to being ready. Unless Tyutin has decided he doesn't want to play in the NHL, he really has no choice in the matter. There is no guarantee there would be a spot for him next year and some team would have to overpay to get him via trade--and he just hasn't played well enough to guarantee that kind of interest.
The entire team finished with a whimper. He's still very young and his NHL career is very young. Consistency is an issue, but at least it's not skill and it's not size. He has all of the tools and he is learning one of the tougher positions to play mentally.
I wouldn't worry about the deal not being done yet. It could be the management side just as much as it being the player side. For all we know, Sath-loney haven't even delved into this issue as much since it isn't a priority. He isn't going anywhere, he's restricted and he isn't going to arbitration (not eligible yet?). The brass took care of our UFAs and outside UFAs first, that's what you're supposed to do. They sure didn't expect Shanahan to fall in their lap and they probably didn't expect Rucinsky to take this long, so maybe they are just behind schedule with their FA list. Maybe they are ahead of schedule. We don't know and we shouldn't worry until camp rolls around and Tyutin still isn't signed. I'll worry then.
I cant see Tyutin signing a long term deal like you guys are suggesting. With the money being thrown around on defenders hes going to do his best to get his share. My guess is he signs a 1 or 2 year deal at around a mil per. If he becomes more consistent he then sets himself up for a big raise once that contract is up.
