Phoenix Proposal

To MIN: Matt Spiller

To PHX: Pascal Dupuis

I'm open to counters, but lets keep in mind that Dupuis is the centerpiece, so we don't need to bring up guys like Doan, Nagy, Ballard, ect.

I don't suppose you'd give us Michalek instead of Spiller?

Nah, didn't think so. But it was a worth a shot.

Anyway, I don't know much about Spiller. What's his story? He can't be that good if you're willing to trade him straight up for Dupew.

Here's the scoop on Spiller.

Big raw defensive talent, our management and coaching should be drooling all over this guy. I would do the proposed trade. Besides, Stoner-Spiller pairing sounds funny

Edit: I probably wouldn't do that trade right now though, maybe midway through the season depending on how things are going. But it's a fair proposal.

Spiller is huge, mean, and can skate. He's got a cannon of a shot, too. He is NHL ready, right now. He could be a bottom pairing defensman on most teams, right now, and he has the potential to be more. I could see him being a second pairing guy, that is a valuable specialty teams player, some day. He could also be nothing more than a 6th or 7th guy for the rest of his career.

He's not a bad prospect, at all, and I think he will be a quality NHL, at some point. It's just that Pheonix has very good defensive depth, and no quality forwards. This is a case where we might be able to deal from a strength to shore up a weakness.

Pascal Dupuis obviously isn't the answer to our scoring woes, but he is a cheap gamble. He could put up points, or he could just be a nice checker. Either way, he helps our team more than Matt Spiller does, at the moment.

A couple of more links RE: Spiller:

- http://ahl.leaguestat.com/stats/player.php?id=78

Notes:
- Played for the worst team in the American Hockey League, the last two years
- Still highley regarded by Phoenix management
- NHL ready
