Poll: Who would you prefer?

With all the rumors going around right now, I was wondering who Habs fans would prefer that we acquired. I'm not talking about what it would cost us just which player you want, Briere, Gomez or neither one of them.

My personal opinion is Briere cause I think he would just fit awesome with our current lineup.

No to both for me. They've each had one good year other than that they've been ordinary in their careers and are making way too much for their numbers to justify their salaries. I'd prefer to wait until after the season has started and see what's available on the market.

Gomez' production seems to depend a lot more with his wingers while Briere makes his wingers better so I'd go for Briere if I had to pick one of the two although I don't think that they'd be worth it in terms of salaries and the player they'd replace on the current lineup.

No to both, I like the team alot right now, though I'm not necessairly opposed to a move.

I'd take Gomez if forced to choose, but right now, I'd pass on both.

Briere. Having Koivu/Briere as our 1-2 punch would be incredible.

Brière, good wise hard-working team-player. The crowd would love him. Isn't Gomez responsable for Robison' departure?

Briere, but not for the money, so I abstain from voting.

Briere not solely because of his talent, but his heart and leadership are amazing. He was the captain of that team. Or is I should say.

Gomez. He's a pretty good player and as an added bonus, he's Alaskan

I voted neither.

Briere is good and all, but for that contract its not gonna fly for me.

As for Gomez, he's nothing without Elias and he's way too small to have in our lineup (which already has too many smallish players). Then you add in the money.

If I had to take one it would be Briere, no thought neccessary, but really we don't need either.

If we could lock him up to a decent contract I would say Briere, but since we would probablely have to overpay him big time, I will go with neither.

Gomez for anything over $4M a year would scare the hell out of me.

I vote neither.

Well, unless their clubs get no offers at all for them and choose to exercise walkaway rights. Then if Briere wanted to sign for $3.5M or Gomez for $4M, I guess I might be willing to try to make room for them. Past that, I don't see either one as a big enough upgrade on Ribeiro that I'd try to trade anything for them or accept them on overpayment-style 1-year contracts.

Depends on the contract and what we have to give in return.

I orignally voted neither but the more I think about it, the more I like the idea of Gomez. Although I wouldn't be that upset if we started the season with our current roster.

Gomez has improved his game considerably thru the years, i didn't used to like his game, but now in his prime he's a helluva hockey player IMO.
There's a big difference between inheriting a role player who's not 100% your type (Ribeiro) and ultimately being willing to retain him when nothing better comes along and then going out and trading significant elements of your team to get such a player and pay him $6M to be your franchise cornerstone.

At the costs involved, no I don't like Gomez/Kostitsyn better than Ribs/Ryder. But wait. We already have Kostitsyn. I don't like Gomez better than Ribs/Ryder/Kostitsyn either. Gomez is a decent player, quick, creative, not quite as unidimensional as some of those diminutive offensive catalyst types, it's true he has been improving. But at the end of the day when I decide on paying a player $6M, he isn't going to be my choice. It's a no-go either way... for a 1 year rental, giving up our Ribs/Ryder duo is way too much. But even for a long-term settlement, paying Gomez $6M would be really dumb, it would probably cost us even more significant elements of the team next summer when we can't afford to re-sign them. There really is no scenario in which acquiring a player like Gomez right now makes sense for us. That more than anything else makes him "not Bob Gainey's type of player."

If I was cereal, I would choose to be Captain Crunch. But I guess that one's already taken. Hmm. Lucky Charms maybe?

Briere and for me its by a long shot...

I have never been too crazy about Gomez... Briere I have always liked. Hes such a complete player its not even funny.

I personally cannot believe that Phoenix gave him up for free... And we didnt get him... I am sure we probably tried though...

Anybody who didnt see this coming from Danny... got to have their head checked... he has always been a phenomanal player....

Gomez is good, but I think playing in Jersey has helped him a bit as well... Hès been spoiled with some great teammates over the past few years.
