Predators sign Erat.

email from the Preds

Nashville, Tenn. (July 24, 2006) – Nashville Predators Executive Vice President/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has agreed to terms with restricted free-agent forward Martin Erat (mahr-TIHN EE-rat) on a two-year contract. Additional terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Erat, 24 (8/29/81), scored a career-high 20 goals in 2005-06, and matched his career bests in points (20g-29a-49pts) and games played (80). The 2005-06 campaign was the second consecutive 40-point NHL season for the Trebic, Czech Republic native, and he also represented the Czech Republic at both the 2006 Winter Olympics and the 2006 World Championships. In the 2006 NHL playoffs, Erat finished second among team forwards in average ice time per game (19:30).

Originally Nashville's 12th selection, 191st overall (seventh round), in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Erat has recorded 139 points (46g-93a) in 263 career games with the Predators. The versatile forward enters 2006-07 ranked seventh on the franchise's all-time scoring list.

Two years is a good length. Gives Marty an opportunity to prove he can establish himself on the first line and if I'm reading correctly...also leaves him as an RFA at the end of the contract? If it does, I'm very happy to see Marty locked in.

Two left...Hamhuis and Hartnell...

Will be interesting to see how much it's for. Would've liked a five year deal, though

That'd be a bargain. I'm guessing 1.7 per year. We had to give him some incentive to sign a two year deal.

He only made 950K last yr...would be mildly shocked if he got 1.7 mill per without UFA looming during those 2 yrs.

I agree....certainly seems reasonable....maybe I am weighing UFA status, or not, too heavily in the equation......

I'm thinking Mike York numbers. 2.75 in the first year and 3.0 in the second.

Not bad. I would value him around 1.5 per, but it's still a low number.

I think its a great signing. I figured 2.5 if he actually went through arbitration (and yes I was overestimating). Hartnell should not get much more....this should leave us plenty of money to resign some UFAs to extensions...

I must be the last remaining Predator fan that likes Scott Hartnell and his ability\what he brings on a level or two above Martin Erat. Hartnell should get 2 million, easily..from us...not even thinking about what an arbitrator would decide.

Oh definitely, and I agree whole-heartedly that he should be making more than Martin Erat. However, statistically, he would probably make close to the amount Erat would from the arbitrator. I penned them both in at 2.5 on my list, but with Erat signing before hand at significantly less than 2.5, I think we can hope Hartnell will sign for close to Erat's salary (I would guess slightly higher, 1.9 1st year, 2.1 second year...for instance).

Oh, and I also have a Hartnell jersey

Why yes, the same Mike York who hasn't gotten over 16 goals in the last three years. And Erat may still have some upside, whereas York has definately topped out.

I was just guessing from the arbitrator awards, not based on real value. For the record, however, I admit that I was WAY OFF on my guess.

Take away Hartnell's "bone-headed" penalties the past two seasons and he would be a god to the fans. A 25 goal scorer . . . a bargain for 2 mil.

I love him. Love the way he plays. I only missed two home games this year, and one of them, you guessed it, his hatty vs. Chicago. That inhaled.

I like the signing. Erat should have a great year playing with guys like Arnott, Karyiya, or Sullivan.
