According to http://rumorsnhl.blogspot.com/, the Habs offered Michael Ryder + Mike Ribeiro + Draft Pick for NJ center Scott Gomez....
'' The Habs have offered Michael Ryder, Mike Ribeiro and draft pick for Scott Gomez. The Flames, Coyotes, Avalanche and the Oilers are also in the race. Gomez is expecting an arbitrator ruling in the coming hours.''
I'm not sure if I would do this deal if i was Bob Gainey. Scott Gomez would cost a lot for a player who only had 1 good season.
Overpayment...we're going to need to wait about his salary thingy...
He'll indeed get alot if he wins in arbitration. Ribs is still young (so is Gomez) and much cheaper. I prefer Gomez but also giving one our best goalscorer wouldn't be a so good idea.

I don't know why but I trust this rumor more than the previous ones. Claude Julien is now in New Jersey and Michael Ryder seem to be one of his favorite player.

Are you kidding?
Ribeiro wouldn't even make the Devil's roster because he can't play the type of hockey they demand. And neither of these two have ever had more than 65 points while Gomez has had 50 assists four times and had 70 or more points three times already.
If Gomez only had one good season, Ribeiro and Ryder haven't had any... and you think you are giving up too much? I know things change when you take salary into consideration, and if he gets what people think he's going to get, his value drops - but to call him out over 'one good season' when you are offering Ribeiro and Ryder is laughable.

I would have no problem with this deal as long as the draft pick is no higher than a 2nd. Gomez would be the ideal second line center between Kovalev and Samsanov. The only problem is that we would have to hope Kostisyn or Latendresse makes the team and fills in for Ryder because with Ryder gone as well as Ribs that leaves two holes to fill.

I would definitely make this deal. Ribeiro is worthless, he's too small and doesn't have one ounce of heart and Ryder could be a great goalscorer, but if it means giving him up to get Gomez and strengthen our team even more then so be it. We could use a good solid d-man too though, I would package Souray in the deal and get Paul Martin or Colin White in return.
I might in the minority here but I would jump all over that deal. Gomez is by far the best player in the deal and would right away make our team better.
I'd be a happy camper if this rumor actually happened.
I'd do the Gomez deal if we can sign him to a 3 or 4 years deal between 4.5 and 5 millions a year, he is about the same age as Ryder and has already produced much more. While Julien might want Ryder, I am not so sure if he wants Ribeiro.

Except the last season and his rookie season, he has scored less than 15 goals in 4 seasons!!!
As for me, I prefer to keep Ribs and Ryder. Having said that, I'd be very happy if we could trade Ribs along with a pick for Gomez.
I don't remotely believe this rumour. I can't see Gomez as a Gainey-type player. Why rent him for 1 year at an exorbitant amount? Sure, he probably is better than either Ryder or Ribeiro separately. But together they mean more to us. I can't believe anybody would actually give any credit to such a rumour.

To add to that Gainey and Lou arent trading partners. I would love to have Gomez but it would be very rare to see Montreal and NJ trade players of high calibre. Oh well fun to dream a bit.
this seems rather absurd considering gomez will likely be awarded a contract in the 4-5.5 million range. ribeiro is scheduled to make 1.9 and ryder 2.2 in the coming season, totalling 4.1 million. i realize that the devils are in a spot of trouble with the cap but if they were to give him up i tend to think they wouldn't want to get two players who would almost equal the salary they would need to pay gomez. my guess is he will go for an established player, a la ryder, and a draft pick or young player who could potentially step in such as perezhogin, who would be much cheaper.
Ribeiro can be taken back by the Devils to make the habs happy salary wise and either put in the minors for a year or someone will claim him off waivers. His 1.9M isn't such a bad hit when you take into account that Mogilny McGillis etc.. were upwards of 5M. And Lou has had no problem hiding salary in the minors. I think this is a fair deal both salary wise and talent wise. While I like Ryder, I think a young player in either Latendresse or Kostytsin will replace him and easily take up some of his scoring, Gomez can pot some goals and setup a lot more and Samsonov will also get some.
I think this is a move in the right direction. We all know we need a C behind saku

If you look at the points Gomez had for the last 6 seasons, i agree that it looks very interesting. But Gomez plays with a few very talented winger and a team who s dominating the league since a decade.
I agree Gomez is better than Ryder and he's much better centerman than Ribeiro, but I don't think that it would be wise for us to pay Gomez 5,5-6M$ a year. If Ryder stay healthy , he could score 40 goals in a single season and this is exactly what we need, a scorer. Gomez is not a scorer and we have enough playmaker already.

lol , Phoenix and Montreal were trading partner??? We received Mike Johnson for a 4th round pick 2 weeks ago.
Gomez would make the other 2 players on his line alot better, you really can't say that for Ribs. Yes Gomez didn't show up until Elias came back but can you imagine him on a line with Kovalev?
Ryder can be spared if we get Gomez in return, and we have young forwards in our system that can take his spot.
