Another thing to consider is that the announcers travel with the team on the same flights and ride the same busses from the hotel to the arena while the road. They are almost a small part of the team, serving the same kind of role like Ari Fleischer and that woman who did Department of Defense briefings during the war in Iraq (damn you Bush :mad: ).
I'm sure it's harder to be critical when you have so much contact with the players. You don't want to rip a guy who will be on the same plane or same bus as you for 7 months. It seems like McNab especially is friendly with the players. Sometimes he says things that make you forget that he's in the top 100 overall in points during his NHL career.
