I don't know who Eklund is, unless you mean the guy who played for the Flyers in the day. Just a little self gloss. What moves are expected next for the Devs

Anyone could have guessed that amount. It's not like the guy said, 5 million and it will be announced at exactly 8:15pm (EST) on July 25th.

Eklund is a basement GM, and full of crap.

I wouldn't rule out a Gomez deal, still.

Basically, the Devils, for starters, will need to deal ONE of their higher salary players. These include Gomez ($5.0M), Gionta ($3.5M???), Rafalski ($4.2M), Malakhov ($3.60M), and Mogilny ($3.50M).

After that, I would expect Brylin, Wiemer, and one of Matvichuk or Lukowich to go. McGillis will be demoted to the AHL once the season starts, and his salary will not count. That *should* put the Devils under.

Dude relax, it was a running joke around here, that he made such a huge gap in predictions.

Not bad. Thought Gomez would get $5.5 million. I think he'll stay in New jersey.

Lou is still going to have to dump someone. I really don't see a team taking M&M unless something really sweet came with it. Roenick's situation was a bit different in that he was actually going to play for LA. Malakhov is retired?? And Mogilny not sure what's going on with him.

Someone mentioned Rafalski as a candidate. Perhaps. Even Lou in some cap trouble he may be able to get market value for him because at $4 million that's a decent price for a guy like that.

TSN has the current Devils commitments at 43.93 mil already, so adding 5 puts them over the 10% offseason barrier does it not?

Not trying to be a dick, just wondering.

The working numbers from Page 1 seems to be $46M x 18 players, with Gionta, Martin and Hale still waiting to sign.... for what? between $5-6M total? Maybe more.

So that leaves $7-8M to shave from the budget right?

I thought Gomez would get 6 forsure. I would be happy to trade for him at 5 million.

To NJ- Stoll +Syvret + 1st Round Pick
To EDM- Gomez

Overpayment maybe BUT the addition of GOMEZ gives us two GREAT scoring lines. Top two lines have a great balance of size, speed and hands.

Smyth Horcoff Hemsky
Mikhnov Gomez Lupul
Torres Reasonar Pisani
Moreau Pouliot Jacques

Don't use TSN or NHLPA for cap numbers. If you read their little blurb above the chart, it states that they only report on how much the player makes (in fact they derive their totals from NHLPA.com). The cap is different in a lot of cases.

For instance, Elias makes $7.5M this year, but his cap hit is $6M per season ($42M/7yr deal). Madden's cap hit is also $2.93M.

McGillis counts during the offseason, but he won't be on the cap by the time the season starts (demoted to AHL).

Gomez and Lupul would be a frightening combo. Gomez is a stud set-up man while Lupul is a pure sniper. Lupes would probably get 50 playing with Gomez. Stoll is a quality return too so I don't think the proposal's that far off. However, with the Hemsky signing today, the Horcoff, Roloson and Pisani signings, and with Smyth UFA next summer can the Oilers really afford Gomez? Scotty can't be signed beyond this year until Jan. 1, 2007 now, and there's no sense for Edm. to make that deal unless they get Scott's name on an extension for next year and beyond.

http://members.shaw.ca/cdelosreyes/

looks pretty accurate, according to this site the Devils are at $41.495
million without Gomez salary.....therefore they can atleast accept the decision and make trades, which seemed unlikly a day ago

Can someone explain how it works to me?

I thought both sides had to give a number and the arbitrator had to decide which one to pick, not pick an arbitrary amount?

In this case, I thought the Devils offered 4M and Gomez asked for 7M, so how did he get 5M???

Magic.

Anyway I thought that wasn't the rule.
