Rumor: NJ interrested in Yannick Perrault?

http://tsf.waymoresports.thestar.com...s.cgi?notebook

In the first article they seem to think NJ have express an interrest in Yannick Perrault since he do not seem to be part of the team plan. What do you think this rumor is worth and what does NJ can give us for him?

Well, the Devils are supposedly interested in Calgary's Craig Conroy as well, they aren't too impressed with Scott Gomez so far this season and may look for a replacement. They could have interest in Perrault, but don't expect anything more then a 2nd or 3rd round pick in return...

Perreault ain't much, but he can easily get the Habs at least a 3rd round draft pick or an ok prospect. I could see Adrian Foster being dealt to Montreal.

Trade him for a pick and pick up Weimer from waivers!

If Perreault can get Montreal a 2nd rounder, I'll be one happy camper.

Okay, before this spins out of control, let me clarify something.

Yanic Perreault is the same player he has always been in this league, a faceoff specialist with the ability to score 40 to 50 points a year, his defensive ability is marginal at best.

This thread will riddled with uninformed Habs fans, spouting their hatred towards him, most of which is a result of believing too much of the media and other fans have said about him.

Make no mistake, Yanic Perreault still has value around the league, his contract isn't that terrible, possibly expensive for small market teams. I believe he is in the final year of his contract so he possibly could be thought of as a rental player, but if the Battaglia/Konowalchuk deal taught us anything, the doesn't really mean much this year, due to the expectant CBA problems (knock on wood!).

that being said, I won't speculate what return we will get, because who knows?

We should be so lucky to get Foster in return for Perreault. If the Devils were to offer Foster, I think that Gainey would do it. For that matter, on another thread, someone suggested that the Devils would be willing to trade Rupp for Perreault. Given the hypothetical choice between the two, I would opt for Foster. An impending UFA is the perfect asset to trade for a gamble like Foster.

I find it hard to believe that Lamoriello would trade anything of value for Perreault, but I suppose I ought to defer to the judgment of a man who has built Cup winning teams on a reasonable budget. Like Munchausen, I would be happy with a 2nd or 3rd round pick. But I would be delighted with either Foster or Rupp.

Wouldn't the Habs want a big physical player like Rupp? I don't know much about Foster but couldn't Rupp step right in?

Of course he could. Especially if the asking price is only Perreault, who has become more than expandable (although not as much as Audette). With the new defensive system he does not fit in and the return of Koivu, he's no longer welcomed. I don't see how Gainey could pass on such a deal if it was offered. But like I said, a 3rd rounder would be enough IMO.

I've wanted Perrault for a while. I feel he would be perfect for the Devils right now and I wouldn't have to hold my breathe on faceoffs. Plus we could get him cheap. Maybe Perrault for Berglund straight up. The only problem there is that the Devils would have a log jam a center.

Perrault for Berguland...done. But if there is an excess of centers, trade Rupp.

Perreault would pretty useful for the Devils on faceoffs and such... and he is pretty wicked if he gets a chance to shoot in the slot...

I would take any of the above for Perreault:
- Berglund
- Rupp
- Foster
- 2d rd pick

I think Gomez should stick around for a while, until we either start losing, or he really drops in points. I don't see a real need to pull a trigger on a deal with him right now, but if Lou sees something he likes, bye bye Gomer.

I'd give you the 2nd if we got a 4th or somethign back. The rest is asking too much for just Perreault IMO

I'd be very happy if we can get a 2nd rounder....

I hate when Perrault has to play and he is taking Hossa's place!

The Habs will not be getting a lot in return for Perreault because I believe he is a UFA this summer, a late pick to a border line prospect at best. Montreal would probably rather not take on any other salary anyway.

Why not a bigger trade:

Rupp + Foster + 2nd rounder

for

Perreault + Bulis + Rivet

???

Just an idea.... May be bad....

This trade will give us some size up the middle since Rupp and Foster are two big guys with some potentiel up front....

I like Perreault. but we have Rib..
I like Rivet, everyone in MTL a tired of Rivet
Bulis... Well. He got speed and he is defensively sounds. But for hetting something in return, we need to offer something interesting....

Anyone of those assets is more than enough for Perreault. The Habs would gladly take one of them for Perreault.

nah...
this deal is maybe fair value wise ...
but I just don't want to trade bulis ... he's IMO our only constant player... and he's still young ... nah sorry ! I pass

Gainey wouldn't do Perreault vs 2nd rounder. Perreault is one of our core-player and he's not tradable for draft picks.

Perreault vs Rupp. Seems OK for both team.
