2003:Jarome Iginla. After an amazing season of 52 goals and 96 points, totally flet down after signing with a mere 35 goals and 67 points...
2004: Dany Heatley: I dont need to remember you the car accident that happen after ea signing...
2005:Markus Naslund :Bah he got saved.....by the lockout!!!
2006:Vincent Lecavalier:His signing didnt affect his performance, but his team pass from cup contender to a team who nearly miss the playoff by 2 points.
The original poster forgot to mention these... Gee I wonder why
2000 - Chris Pronger, won Hart and Norris
1999 - Eric Lindros, 93 points in 71 games
1998 - Peter Forsberg, 2nd in league scoring, 1st team all-star
1997 - John Vanbiesbrouck, got Florida in the playoffs again
It still doesn't change the fact some people on this board grossly overrate him
Do you honestly remember what happened to Lindros in 1999? Refresher: playing arguably the best hockey in his career. (Even better than his Hart season or the first three rounds of the 1997 playoffs). Dominated physically and offensively. Suffered a serious internal injury during a road game (Florida, I think). Clarke wanted Lindros to fly home after the game in which he was injured. Lindros family balked at it. He needed some kind of operation. Doctors said afterwards that if Lindros would have flown home, he would have died.
The dissension between Lindros and Clarke started brewing after Canada lost in the 1998 Olys, when Clarke was the GM and Lindros was out of his league as captain. But after that injury, the relationship really deteriorated. I've always maintained that the internal injury, not the three concussions sustained in 1999-2000, was the start of Lindros' downfall. Even before the concussions, he was ineffective for most of 1999-2000, thanks largely to the Clarke feud. (He even apologized to his teammates during a closed-door meeting in the fall of 1999, stating that the Clarke feud had reduced his effectiveness).
I don't subscribe to this curse baloney (I don't even play video games). But to talk about 1998-99 as a great year for Lindros is foolishness.
The thing that everybody fails to mention is that unless you're Gretzky or Lemiuex, it's really really hard to post consecutive elite level seasons like it would take to get you on the cover of an NHL game. Usually, they go with the flavor of the moment and they have trouble in the next season. It happens.
Wasn't Heatley replaced by Sakic after the car accident? How'd that turn out? Has Sakic been sent to the AHL yet?
The curse thing is ridiculous. Players are put on the covers of sports games/magazines for EXCEPTIONAL performance. If it weren't exceptional, players would keep doing it every year, and they wouldn't be on the covers of sports games and magazines.
the funny thing is about this thread is the same thing has happened with madden... look at vick, mcnabb... now alexander is on front this year.. he better watch out... weird but it has happened that way
