Ziggy Palffy or Alexei Kovalev

In their prime, when 100% healthy, who is better and who would you take?

I'd say its very close, hmmm... I would say Ziggy, but I think for overall skill they are pretty even. Had Kovalev put in an effort every game, I have a feeling he could have been better than Ziggy.

Palffy - 3 time 40 goal scorer, PPG player over his career.

684GP: 329G, 384A = 713Pts

Kovalev - 1 time 40 goal scorer, best season 95pts.

918GP: 315G, 430A = 745Pts

There aren't many players I would take over a 100% healthy, in his prime Ziggy Palffy, Kovalev not being one of em

The problems is he's rarely 100% healthy nowadays

the potential Ceiling was higher for Kovalev but he never come close of reaching it.
Ziggy ceiling was a bit lower but reach it.

so Ziggy

I pick neither

Kovalev dives all over the place and he is a puck hog.

Palffy is injury prone. He is always getting injured.

Puck hog or not, Kovalev steps up big when the team needs him most. When he wants to play, hes still one of the best game breakers.

Palffy is injury prone, but can carry a team on his back through long scretches, when healthy (LA kings). And when hes healthy, hes hot.

Yeah he did. Watching Kovy on the Penguins was a complete treat. He's never been able to keep it up consistantly outside Pittsburgh though, and for that reason I'd go with Palffy.

Kovalev is a beast with the puck, extremely hard to knock him down. Why would he need to dive? Get a clue. Still pissed about Tucker?

From what I've heard from other people, Ziggy was much better and Kovy was much worse than I saw from them in Pittsburgh.

So from what mine own eyes have shown me, Kovalev.

Palffy's put up some insane regular season numbers in a low scoring era, but off the top of my head I can't remember him doing anything in the playoffs. Ever. That makes it a tough choice for me. Granted he did spend a lot of time on a poor Islanders team.

What kind of argument is that? That he's so strong on the puck just makes him look more like he's diving when he gets knocked down, not less.

Kovalev....close but the '94 cup and Hab playoff performance win gives him the edge.

Palffy's numbers make his argument. The problem with saying "when motivated" is that if the player isn't always motivated, why would you take him over someone else that can put up better numbers?

Kovalev is possibly the most talented player in the league when he tries. The problem is, he rarely puts in a 100% effort.
I'd take Palffy.

Kovalev

Every time that guy touches the puck in the offensive zone, he can create a scoring oppurtunity.

When healthy, I would say the same thing about Palffy.

It is difficult to compare these two since both have obvious flaws: Palffy has injury problems and Kovalev has consistency problems.

Judging a player without their flaws is impossible.

I vote: Tie

Kovalev if he has vetern leader to put his *** in place. but if he doesnt then I pick Palffy, I loved the deadmarsh allison plaffy line. I

Kovalev takes too many nights off IMO, some games he looks like a top 10 player in the NHL, others you ask if he;s playing or not.

I want the player who that you don't have to make the "well, when hes motivated hes the best" argument with.

That would be Palffy.

I want a guy who doesn't have to "be motivated" I want the guy whose gonna get on the ice and try his best every shift even if hes not as talented as the next guy.

I'll take Palffy, please.

Kovalev is the most talented player I've ever seen.

And there's lots of things you guys don't know about him and you judge him without knowing. His love for the game is incredible...he played injured for the first 20 games or so last year and didn't bother telling any of his teammates until he had to have major knee surgery because he didn't want to use it as an excuse.

He also denied having an injury during the playoffs however people in the media saw him in the hospital etc.

I wouldn't give him up for anybody. And I hope when he finally retires there will be someone of his skill around that I will be able to enjoy watching.
