Gameday: Sabres vs. Devils 11/12

GAME: New Jersey Devils (7-3-3-0) at Buffalo Sabres (7-7-1-0).

TIME: Wednesday, 7 p.m. EST.

(Sports Network) - The defending Stanley Cup-champion New Jersey Devils try to extend their unbeaten streak to seven tonight when they take on the Buffalo Sabres in an off-site game in Rochester, New York.

The contest, played at intimate Blue Cross Arena, will be the first-ever NHL tilt in Rochester, which is the home of the Sabres' AHL affiliate, the Americans. The last time one of the four major professional sports leagues held a contest within the city limits was on Feb. 5, 1960, when the NBA's Syracuse Nationals and Philadelphia Warriors played at the War Memorial. The War Memorial was later refurbished into the building the clubs will play in this evening.

As for the Devils, they are 5-0-1 during their current tear, including Saturday's 1-0 win over host Ottawa in a rematch of the Eastern Conference finals. Martin Brodeur made 26 saves for his second shutout of the season and captain Scott Stevens scored the lone goal early in the third period to lead the effort. The reigning Vezina winner has surrendered a mere seven goals in his five starts during the team's undefeated run. New Jersey remained without a loss on the road (4-0-1), and has allowed only five goals away from the Meadowlands.

Buffalo, meanwhile, is 1-2-1 in its last four, including a home-and-home split with Montreal. After a 2-1 home win on Friday, the Sabres were blanked 3-0 up at Bell Centre the following night. Mika Noronen made 24 saves in a losing effort for the Sabres, who were shut out for the third time this season. Buffalo will return to HSBC Arena Friday to face Pittsburgh.

The Devils went 3-0-1 against the Sabres last season and are 4-0-2 in the last six meetings.

McKee scratched---a bit of surprise but if Ruff is serious about play-for-performance, then no one is exempt.

He's colourful. Love him or hate him, he's confrontational.

And he does have a point---like there would be more than 12K in Buffalo for this game.

And that's a problem? Since when is being straight about something the wrong thing to do? Oh, that's right, we're in WNY where everyone has a regional ego like an eggshell.

when you pray to the hockey gods you are actually praying to don cherry

hockey changes, he doesn't

and i agree the instigator rule should be eliminated
i think it would help get rid of a lot of the stickwork that has become so widespread

As for Miro... someone form a search party, he seems to have gone missing.

Nice game for Max and Delmore! I listened to RJ's call over the net and heard Miro's name maybe twice...and once was the give-away that led to the second Jersey goal. What's the deal with him? Could losing the C really have drained his motivation or is he just being his typical inconsistent self?
