New username. Actually, going back to an old username that I've used on this board, and that I use a lot more in other places.

I thought this thread would be about Manny Malhotra, Jamie Lundmark, Pavel Brendl, or Hugh Jessiman,

Yep, my old username is kind of a vague memory. Even Edge was surprised that HRR and Potted Plant were the same person, because I used the Potted Plant name virtually since the beginning of HFBoards. I started using HRR at about the same time that I started to become a lot less active here. Whenever it comes out, people are surprised that this relatively infrequent poster living in Alabama is actually an old-timer in disguise.

Wow, I never realized you used to be (and are now again) Potted Plant.

You authored one of the best responses to a very presumptuous question:
"What's it to ya?"

That's OK with me, but the name really has nothing to do with ....cigarettes. It's a reference to Ollie North's hearings before the joint committee investigating the Iran-Contra affair.

On the subject of name changes, I took care of that little grammatical flaw that's been bugging me since I signed up last summer. Everyone please make sure you're seated... BrooklynRangerFan is now BrooklynRangersFan.

I should point out for the record, however, that I am still a big fan of Brooklyn Ranger.

Whatever happened to Brooklyn Ranger? I remember that your handle was a reference not to living in Brooklyn and being a Rangers fan, but actually being a fan of Brooklyn Ranger.

No, actually I DO live in Brooklyn and AM a big Rangers fan (obviously). When I first signed up, there were a number of regular posters (Edge? Fletch? I don't remember) who saw the humor in the missing "s" in my username and the result was about a page of "Hey Brooklyn Ranger, you've got a fan on the boards!" in some thread about something else. That might be the discussion you remember.

I've been contemplating shortening my name on here for some time now.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The software for username changes is installed and working. I'll be configured in the next 10-15 mins.

Unlike the previous version, there is not a set period. You will be able to change your username anytime, but you will only be able to change it once every 365 days. In other words don't change it to something silly unless you're prepared to live with for a year.

The option to change usernames will appear in UserCP--->Settings & Options--->Edit Email & Password when the configuration is completed. You will need to enter your password.

Sponsors and staff will be permitted a name change once every 270 days. They will also be able to view Username history on mousever* of a username where they post in a thread. If the history display isn't too server intensive it will remain available for all registered members.

Rookie users will not be able to change names. Users with Infraction Level I or greater (10+ points) also will not be able to change names until their points expire.

*doesn't work with Opera browser
