OT: Heat Wave

Who's ready for the pending heat wave that is going to hit us tomorrow and last till Wed-Thursday? Suppose to reach 97-103 in the NY Metro area and surrounding areas on Tuesday and Wednesday with heat indices around 105-110. Not looking forward toward this at all, stay cool everyone...and pray we don't lose power/AC.

dont jinx us, the blackout was awful, heat wise, but so calming..

as far as the black out goes, i just hate sitting at home, and not being able to go out and bike, run, et cetera. Nasty..

I'd trade spots with you in a hearbeat. i'd take that heat for a couple days, then constantly here in Dallas.

I hate any day over 74 degrees, but it's August in NY, hot and humid, let's just hope the power stays on this time.

Atlanta whether is much more stable overall year round IMO. NY is either Baltic or hot as Africa.

Yea, thats the problem. I got to college up in Rochester, and I think that weather is the worst. It's cloudy for like three straight weeks, then two days of sun and then back to just gray. In the spring when the sun came out more, i was like damn, what is that weird yellow spot in the sky???? And the lake effect snow and lake winds, god, its just so freakin stupid. uhhkgh

I'm pretty sure the heat won't affect the power this time, ConEd has hired numerous other electric companies to help them fix the grid outside of the city. Beleive me, they have been fixing for over a month now. The heat really had very little to do with this most recent one, they were trying to fix stuff in my neighborhood (Astoria) for a few weeks leading up to the actual hit of power. The heat was more of an excuse, but it didn't make sense 9 days later when I still had no damn AC.

EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY EVENING...

AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY EVENING.

HIGH TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO CLIMB TO BETWEEN 98 TO 104 DEGREES ACROSS NEW YORK CITY AND NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY TUESDAY AND AGAIN ON WEDNESDAY. COMBINED WITH RATHER HIGH HUMIDITY LEVELS...THIS WILL RESULT IN HEAT INDICES CLIMBING TO BETWEEN 105 AND 113 DEGREES TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND POSSIBLY SLIGHTLY HIGHER THEN THIS WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON
.

CONDITIONS WILL REMAIN OPPRESSIVE AT NIGHT AS THE TEMPERATURES ONLY DROP TO AROUND 80 DEGREES.

AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH MEANS THAT A PROLONGED PERIOD OF HOT TEMPERATURES IS EXPECTED. THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL COMBINE TO CREATE A DANGEROUS SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE POSSIBLE. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS... STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED ROOM...STAY OUT OF THE SUN...AND CHECK UP ON RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS
.

I just got back from the Adirondacks, Brant Lake, like a couple exits after Lake George on 87. Weather was sooo nice. I miss that weather already.

Thing about ATL though is, air conditioning is a standard feature in almost every buiness and residence. Having a place to escape the heat is a lot less common here.

It's weeks like these where I just cannot comprehend how anyone lives in Florida.

You have to have a pool down there, people who don't must never leave the house.

Break out the Watermelons !!!
(though keep them at room temperature as to be sure not to lose those helpful antioxidents )

Record heat in the dead of Summer, lets just hope the
electric stays on. If not you're all invited over to Fletch's place, he must have a backup generator, i've seen him drink,no way his beer goes warm

I have no problem...

drinking warm, flat beer. But, it would be a shame for the 5 or 6 cases in my fridge to go bad. In case of blackout, I'll see y'all on my stoop on Greenwood Avenue in Brooklyn. Free beer!

The other problem with New York is that none of us are smart enough to slow down in the heat. We all still run around like maniacs and work until goodness-knows-what-hour each day. Tomorrow, for instance, I'm probably going to be working well into the night.

My office just got an air conditioner today, too. Ha.

I'm staying home all day long, all week. Air-conditioning in every part of my house.
