To Buff:
F Mike Cammalleri
C Eric Belanger
D Aaron Miller
G Jason LaBarbera

Leaves us:

Vanek - Connolly - Afinogenov
Roy - Drury - Hecht
Kotalik - Cammalleri - Pominville
Gaustad - Belanger - Mair
Peters - Novotny

Tallinder - Lydman
Kalinin - Spacek
Campbell - Numminen
Miller

Miller
Biron (will be traded)
LaBarbera

Leaves L.A.:

Frolov - Briere - Dumont

Avery - Armstrong - Kostopoulus

Blake - Gleason
Visnovsky - Norstrom
????????? - Sopel
Weaver/Dallman

Cloutier

LA gets:
  • a legitimate top line forward duo with great chemistry who can each put up point per game totals if they stay healthy and play together
  • some veteran leadership for the group of young forwards in Los Angeles (Brown, O'Sullivan, Frolov, Kopitar)

Buffalo gets:
  • young, fairly cheap, versatile, top-six forward with all-around skill and a lot of potential in Cammalleri
  • third/fourth line center who can score, win faceoffs, and be defensively responsible
  • a defenseman from WNY to add more depth and grit to our defensive corps
  • a backup goaltender

I like it for the most part...

I would be really, really hesitant to deal Cammy. He would be a GREAT fit the Sabres, so kudos to you for identifying that.

I would almost rather just do a deal for Dumont, depending on his arbitration results...but this is a very interesting and tempting deal...

For me it would boil down to the contract status of the Dumont and Briere...if we could get them signed to long-term deals, I would do the deal in a second.

The value seems relatively even (Miller and Labs are seemingly two players that need dumping).

However, I don't know that I'd do it simply because I think Cammy is going to be very near if not equal to Briere's ability and he's homegrown. If DL is trying to build a player-friendly, tradition-steeped franchise, he would seem to be more inclined to hang onto the young guns the Kings have drafted.

Yeah, I want to use Labarbera somewhere in a trade good. Cammy Im not sure about, Miller used to be on their team, and they don't really have room for him, I would do it Im not sure about this trade I probably would do it.

He's from NY; he's never been on their team.

Miller was never a Sabre. Where do you get your facts?

I don't really think Buffalo would do this deal.

They'd be taking on 6.1M in salary. Assuming JP gets something like 2.9M, they'd only be saving 1.8M, and all the players they're getting are signed to 1 year deals, or have only 1 year left on their contracts.

It's a decent deal from LA's perspective, but I would HATE to see Cammy go. Maybe I would do this deal if both Breire and JP give their word they will sign long term. Otherwise it's a no-go.

Agree.

It's a fair deal, but, IMO, Cammy's going to be as good as Briere and I'd prefer to keep him because, as mentioned, he's homegrown.

While yes the Kings could use some help up front on the forwards ...

a.) the Kings are in NO NEED or RUSH to get rid of anyone
b.) Cammalleri should be, and I think IS, part of Lombardi's long term plans for the Kings
c.) guys like Miller / Sopel / Belanger are going to have HIGHER value come trade deadline when teams are looking for solid vets that can help push a team over the top yet have contracts that will come of the books the following year should they not work out
d.) Last thing Buffalo needs is yet another goalie
e.) LaBarbera might be of high value to a team like Detroit when Hasek goes down during training camp or pre-season
f.) so NO deal sorry

I have high hopes for Cammy as well. Having a homegrown star in LA would be AMAZING. When was the last time that happened?

Yes, as quickly as possible.

The Kings have very few players in the prime of their careers. Most have peaked, the rest are just starting to prove themselves. Losing Cammalleri would hurt, but the rest are deadweight who have already been replaced on the roster.

McCauley > Belanger
Garon (as a backup) > LaBarbera
Dallman/Weaver/Petiot = Miller (with back issues)

I personally would not be surpirsed to a see a 35-40 goal season out of Cammalleri this year, but having O'Sullivan, Frolov and Brown as young roster players over comes a bit of that loss.

Frolov - Briere - Dumont
O'Sullivan - Conroy - Brown
Thornton - McCauley - Willsie
Cowan/Kanko - Avery/Armstrong - Kostopolous/Parros

Immediate improvement. This is a no brainer if you ask me.

I just got a Cammy jersey last year, so I don't want to trade him....

But aren't we always trying to trade Cammy and a pick for ANYTHING? So we should say yes - whether it makes any sense or not.

(BTW, owning a replica of a player's jersey and using that to make trade decisions is always a mark of a good, respectable GM)

Not sure what you mean by this, but yes, Frolov is more valuable than Cammalleri.

Correct me if I'm wrong...

Aren't JP and Briere gonna be UFA's next year?

Despite this fact you would still give up Cammy for them?

Like I said, I might do this deal if both JP and Briere verbally agree to sign long term. But I doubt that would happen.

I want the Kings to trade Frolov so Reaper45 would shut his face. Your so annoying, you look at every Frolov situation bias.

I would like to see the Kings keep Cammy over Frolov but 1 thing that I like about Frolov that I dont like about Cammy is Frolov wanted to be here and Cammy is looking to pounce on the big bucks at any cost.

Maybe that's part of his problem.

And Cammalleri made the right choice, IMO. He can get more after he lights it up next season. It doesn't mean he won't stay in L.A. It just means he's waiting until he's worth more before he re-ups.

Well ... by your logic riseandfall9 ... we better dump Brown & Gleason then too, because they didn't sign their MQO's ... those money hungry greedy ******** !

Oh and Avery ... don't forget that no good punk that's looking to pounce on the big bucks at any cost ... he actually had the nerve to take the Kings to Arbitration ... SHIP HIM OUT ! HOW DARE HE !

and funny how you forget about Frolov ...
Quote:
Frolov became a restricted free agent before the 2005-06 NHL season, and he and the Kings had initial diffuculties in agreeing on a new contract. He then signed a one-year contract with Avangard Omsk of the RSL, the league in which he played durng the 2004-05 NHL lockout, saying that he would most likely go on to spend the 2005-06 season playing in Russia. However, about a month later, he signed a 5 year, $14.5 million contract with the Kings.
You ever stop to think it's the players AGENT'S that cause these problems and little rifts, when salaries and new contracts come around ?

I have NEVER heard Cammalleri say once that he didn't want to be a King or in LA, have you ? and like kingsfan25 is saying, Cammalleri will still be a RFA even next year, so he's looking to prove to the Kings that maybe he's worth a BIG MONEY LONG TERM Contract, maybe just a better one than Lombardi initially was offering, IF Cammalleri was ONLY about the $$$ and didn't want to be a King, he could have not taken the 1 year offer and most likely gotten MORE money from Arbitration don't you think ? ... that tells me he'd rather show everyone that he's worth the big money and earn it, rather than it be handed to him ...

Like Osprey has been saying ... please stop injecting your OPINION as FACT !
