The Best and Worst Rivalry?

Don't mention your own rivalry's.

One of the best is..
Flames-Canucks

Unlike the fake rivalry in Alberta, i see these fans throw alot more blows at each other, and both have more in common as a franchise. Rivalrys are always better when it's not in the same area. Everywhere but NY, and maybe Cali

The worst is..
Predators-Wings

The Preds can't compare to the Wings in any way, shape or form because of Detroit's history, it's like what does Detroit have to prove to them?(no offense), so i can't look at this as a serious rivalry.

the battle of alberta could be back in full swing following the oilers run

the sens-leafs could be better if the sens learned how to win in the playoffs

i would agree with the nucks-flames because i was at a game between the two last year at the dome and the number of cacunkleheads in the building was insane. I think a fight broke out in the crowd too

the worst rivalry, how about la-anaheim. is there any hostility there?

I think Flames vs Nucls is a better one right now than Flames vs Oilers. There doesn't seem to be as much hate in alberta compared to the Nucks

I'm biased so I'm obviously going to say Rangers - Islanders. I think I remember hearing a story about an Islanders fan that walked into Madison Square Garden during a Rangers Islanders game, and he was wearing an Islanders jersey, and someone lit it on fire. You'll find some of the scummiest people in the world in New York, I swear. I'd say the Rangers had a real strong rivalry last year with the Flyers as well. It seemed like every game was a battle for the division lead, and then somehow the Devils ended up winning the division anyway.

I have some Islander-Rags stories. The craziest was in MSG as well. I was about 7 years old with my dad at the time, and i remember some Ranger fan threw up on these 3 Islander fans(young guys) sitting in front of him, not sure if he did it on purpose or if he was too drunk, but a huge, huge, huge fight broke out between about 10 people and lasted for about almost 10 minutes. It was getting close to a riot cause things were being thrown from all angles.

There's more between the fans and the players anyway, especially when the game is at the Pond and the Kings fans have Duck Roasts.

Well,I might be biased here, but as far as pure hatred goes, the best rivalry IMO is Rangers/Islanders.When I say hatred,I mean hatred.Ranger/Islander games are always an event, whether the games are at MSG,or Nassau Coliseum.Being a Ranger fan myself,I love it when the Rangers beat them, and I'm just the same disgusted when they lose to them.If you want further proof of that hatred, check this out...it's old,but it says a lot http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PWjj...ockey%20fights

As far as others,of course, the Wings/Avs rivalry is another great one,as they've faced eachother so many times in the playoffs. Also, the Avs/Nucks rivalry has picked up steam, all thanks to that coward Todd Bertuzzi, and his senseless attack on Steve Moore. And by mentioning this,I'm not trying to start yet another debate on this issue.Bertuzzi has since moved on to Florida of course, but that still doesn't change my opinion of him.

Best rivalry: Edmonton vs. Calgary. Always entertaining!

Worst rivalry: Toronto vs. Buffalo. Talk about going from high gear to dead! (Maybe Peca will fan life into it?)

How many years in the last 10 have the Rangers finished with more points than Toronto? I generally have alot of respect for Ranger fans but you walked right into that one with your little jab.

And why would you take the jab in the first place? To get the Leaf fans on the board upset?

I just do not understand posts like that

Lets not go completely nuts here. Edmonton had a nice cinderella run last year. But this year they will be back in the basement watching the playoffs with the other non playoff teams as usual, while Calgary and Vancouver are vying for the Stanley Cup.

It's been 15+ years since you won a stanley cup, maybe not as pathetic as Toronto but certainly not what I'd call a "winning franchise"

IMO, Sens/Leafs is the worst. As it stands, Ottawa's choking ways really undercut what could be a good rivalry.

IMO, the Bertuzzi incident killed the rivalry. It made it too real and made the teams gunshy, and more-so, put the whole thing in perspective. Flames are now officially the Nucks arch-nemesis.

Wow, i wasn't even aware that WAS a rivalry.

I'd said Wings/Blues circa last decadeish (last year excluded) because they played each other a lot and the Blues were considered Cup contender many of those years, but could never beat Detroit in the playoffs(5 times?) . Only one of the recent regular season "series" went to the Blues and the Wings dominated the rest.

The Flames/Oilers rivalry is more of a sibling rivalry since there seems to be some degree of Alberta camraderie but we'll still despise, rub salt in wounds, and step on each other every chance we get.

Flames/Canucks (not to mention Oilers/Canucks, Wild/Canucks, and Avs/Canucks) seem to be the sort of murderous blood rivalry that you would consider between gangs that utterly wish to see the other destroyed and humiliated. I think every other team in the NW division hates the Canucks. They are Toronto-West...and the Bertuzzi incident just villified them more. Also, in visiting all the boards of the NW Division teams, there are more Vancouver trolls than anywhere else. I'm sure the Minny and Colorado boards can attest to this. Also helps that every team in the division has helped to eliminate the Canucks in or from the playoffs in some manner in the past 5 years.

I would have said Detroit/Colorado a few years ago though for best rivalries. Toronto vs. Ottawa in past years but Toronto was utterly decimated by Ottawa last season.

The Rangers-Islanders has to be top 3 in the league and no doubt the best in the US.

I remember my first NYR-NYI game was at the Garden. There was an entire section of Islander fans, and this one Ranger fan was sitting in this section. He got so drunk that when the Rangers scored, he mooned the entire section. The Isles fans all jumped him. The guy was getting pounded. Out of nowhere Rangers fans came running to the section, it was a massive brawl that took about 30 minutes to clear up. Security finally broke it up and several guys were all bloody and bruised. They escorted all Ranger fans to one area and Islander fans to another, not sure if they threw them out, just saw all of them leaving seperately.

That sounds about par for the course. I've been to about 5 or 6 NYI v. NYR games, and there's usually fights. One good one was at Nassau where some guys were fighting just outside of the ice and slammed the other guys face into the glass. The whole coliseum stopped watching the game, and paid attention to the fight instead. It went on for a good 5-10 minutes.

I think a lot of the Atlantic Division rivalries are really good. Isles-Rangers, Rangers-Devils, Devils-Flyers, Flyers-Rangers, etc. With the teams being so close together it makes it really easy for the fans to attend away games, so the arenas always have a good number of fans from the away teams, which leads to plenty of brawling and general mayhem.

More recently, it's been difficult for Ottawa to choke in the playoffs against Toronto if the latter aren't in them.

Ah, baseless, rivalry-based statements. Every team has them and the nucks are deffinately not the worst

It's actually heating up. There have been some decent scrums in the recent past (and when else does Detroit fight?), plus with the playoff series there is added tension. Nashville are the up and comers in the Central and want to show that they are the future top of the division. They also play the Wings very well with the season series being split fairly even the past few years. Not a great rivalry yet, though, and certainly not Wings/ Lanche from the late 90's.

I'll also go with octopi that the Wings rivalry with the Blues is pretty lukewarm. In the past the players have seemed to pick up their games, but I don't think the fans ever really got into it. I remember watching a game between the Wings and Blues before the lock out and the fans reacted no differently than the Florida fans when I watched the Wings play the Panthers this year. Blues fans, you need to be more loud and rude!

The battle of Ontario is very fun to watch. That is if you forget about last year anyway. But I think that is the best rival by far.

The worst one is any of them in the south. They all dont get enough fans anyway to come and watch whatever it may be.
