Fantasy Hockey # 1 Pick

Who would you pick first overall this year? I'd go with Ovechkin or Kipper.

Goalies killed me last season. We pre ranked and auto drafted, so I ended up getting Khabibulin....yea. So i think i'd pick Kipper first this year. Or maybe even Lundy.

I picked up Lundy as a backup last year at the beginning of the season and sure enough he practically won me first place.

Go with ovie...you really cant lose with him, unless some HUGE injury takes him out. But thats the gamble you take with everyone.

I want Ovechkin for my number one pick this year. If that doesn't happen then id go with Sid or Malkin.

At the same time, it's impossible to win without solid goaltending. The first post-lockout season made drafting tough and everybody got lucky with some players, unlucky with others.

The board always does a Yahoo league. It's fun, but some people tend to get all amped up the first week, then stop playing. We're going to have to do a background check this year before letting people in. If you're a perennial flaker, you're out.

It's been about 3 years since I did fantasy hockey on Yahoo, but I'd be hard pressed to pick between Thornton and Kiprusoff. They're both very good #1 picks. The only thing I'd say is that if there are a lot more statistics for skaters than goalies, then I'd pick Thornton. I know in the baseball league that I'm in, there are more stats for the position players so pitchers aren't as important.

At the risk revealing my fantasy hockey genius go with a good goaltender because a goaltender can win (or lose) you up to 5 categories (one point each in yahoo) singlehandedly. As studly as AO, Thornton, Jags, and co. may be, not one of them could have the same impact.

Never take a goalie early. There are just so many good ones. Let Brodeur, Kiprusoff, and Luongo go and then draft goalies like Miller, Lundqvist, Niittymaki, Toskala, etc. in the later rounds.

Thornton would be my #1 pick.

I'm the one who prefers picking last and grabbing Kovalchuk and Cheechoo 8th and 9th overall .

All this talk is making my mouth water. I've been ready since March. I haven't entered a HF pool yet. Should be a lot more interesting than the joke that was the yahoo league I formed with some former teammates at school. By January, there were only three of us regularly updating our rosters.

I'd take Kiprusoff, but I am not a Rangers fan just an outsider.

The only goalie I would take with the #1 pick would be Kirprusoff.

i disagree.. there are always maybe 1-3 goaltenders that are way ahead of the pack say ranked in the top 15 then the next best group are usually in the mid 20's

Bumping this to ask a question, having saw there was already a pool created and filled up. Anybody else not already in that pool that'd be up for putting one together? Like I said, Im a newb , but, I definitely want to check it all out and stick with it.
