Lombardi: Nobody.
Of course, he does go on to say that maybe O'Sully might make it, but it sure sounds like AK is playing at least some of the season in Manchester. Anyone who's paid any attention to what they've been saying for the last several weeks would know this anyway. But he sure wasn't beating around the bush with this statement.

You're a Manc fan...do you think Kanko will benefit from another season in the A?

No, not really. I think a few weeks/months might be good for him if they want to transition him away from "grinding" and have him focus more on skating and scoring. He has quite the laser-guided rocket shot. I think he'll be one of the first wings they'll call-up as soon as an opportunity presents itself.

I hope so.

Lombardi: it will be like it was in San Jose when we had character guys like Kelly Hrudey, Tony Granato, Marty McSorley and Bernie Nicholls.

...but those were our guys, Dean!

(Yes, I know - they went & played for him in SJ, too. I just found it amusing that those are the SJ character guys he named - and they were all Kings!)

I thought the same thing! Kind of ironic isn't it?

Points out in fine detail the difference between the self-induced lean years post-Gretzky and the unbroken cycle of injuries we just experienced. Say what you will but Dave Taylor will be partly responsible for Lombardi's success.

Young players like Alexander Frolov, Dustin Brown and Tim Gleason will work now in this kind of environment and we'll find out how good they are.
Can we PLEASE stop with the incessant Frolov proposals that have come to pass as of late?

Although... he doesn't say Cammalleri... Cue the Cammy proposals!

The Kings fans definitely seem to be the worst at seeing into nothing, don't they? I was thinking the same thing, people will start up on the whole Cammy thing again. To make all the fans happy, Dean should name the WHOLE roster in each interview so we can't find a way to make something out of his comments that aren't there.

Well, you are talking about a former winner of the Garry F. Longman Memorial Trophy.

I really want to see Kopitar in the NHL this year, but at the same time I think putting him in Manchestor is a good idea. I think AK will be good for the development of Pushkarev, and Tukonen aswell.

Pushkarev - Kopitar - Tukonen

That would be a great AHL line.

To summarize...
He thinks that O'Sullivan "has paid his dues" and may be ready for the NHL, but is open-minded enough that more AHL may be necessary. As for Kopitar, he thinks that he'll go to the AHL, but is open-minded enough to give him a shot at the NHL if he proves himself in camp. In other words, both have a chance of making the Kings and both have a chance of not making them, but, right now, he's leaning towards one making it and the other not. This is exactly the way that I feel, as well.

Yeah...it's convenient to ignore one of his quotes when another of his quotes pops up.

Nelson Emerson holds the Kings record for falling down on one shift and during the course of a game. George Parros will soon eclipse him, as he already surpassed Jason Blake's record.

Don't worry Reap, I liked Nelson "The Human Zamboni" Emerson too.

I'll always remember the goal he scored in game 7 against the Avalanche. Shot from the left circle, which Adam Foote *ducked* under, and bounced off Roy's shoulder and into the net.

You know, any guy that goes out there and gives 100% every shift is OK in my book. If you ain't divin' for that liner, rememberin' the count, askin' for the next shift, or bump draftin', you might as well get a set of crochet hooks. The Jon Sims and Jeff Giulianos and Phil Sykes of this world may not have Ovechy-talent but the dudes maximize. Nelson was much more than we had from half this team at the end of the year last year. Just remember. S'all I ask.

But "star" prolly not.
