The Monarchs have scheduled a press conference on Friday August 4 to announce their new Head Coach. The conference is scheduled to start at 3:00 (EST). Lombardi and Hextall will make the announcement...
With the way everything is coming together within the Kings organization, I would be surprised if it wasn't Mike Sullivan. Since we brought Mike O'Connell aboard, I always thought Mike Sullivan would be the best possible choice. NHL head coaching experience, works well with young kids, lives in the area, and his experience working with MOC made him the most logical candidate. This would be a great grab for the Kings.

You pretty much hit on all my reasons for wanting him as the coach and he's got 709 NHL games experience as a player...
I imagine that you're expecting that because that's what would've happened under the old regime (unfortunately). The new one, however, has made a strong statement about signing known commodities (ex. Lombardi, Crawford, Hextall, O'Connell, Ranford). Signing a little-known person would be a major break in the established pattern. It doesn't mean it won't happen, but it would be a major shock. I would expect Sullivan or, if not him, another familiar name to continue the pattern.

I was thinking someone from Lombardi's or Hextall's past...
edit: Ok so it was Crawford's friend BUT, he did coach Hextall's kid at Prep school so I was sort of correct...Partial Credit?

I like the fact that Lombardi will be flying out to Manchester to participate. He doesn't really have to do that.
Actually, yes he does. They're (Monarchs) to the point that they're sending out flyers to STH that haven't renewed that say "Your Seats Miss You"...There are a lot of us that are holding out at this point...
an email received today:
MEET THE KINGS' COURT
The Los Angeles Kings and the Manchester Monarchs invite you to join Kings General Manager Dean Lombardi and Kings Assistant General Manager/Monarchs General Manager Ron Hextall as they introduce the new coach of your 2006-07 Monarchs team!
The Monarchs will hold a press conference on Friday, August 4 starting at 3:00 p.m. in the lobby of the Verizon Wireless Arena. The club will announce the new coach followed by questions from the media. We expect to have some time remaining to field a few questions from the season ticket holders in attendance after the media has finished.
Please enter the Verizon Wireless Arena through the front lobby (Elm Street entrance) as the press conference will begin promptly at 3:00 p.m.
We look forward to seeing you on Friday and introducing you to the Kings' Court!
If you want to argue that he chooses to go to encourage STHs to renew, that's fine, but he doesn't need to be there, seeing as how Hextall is GM. I definitely agree that it looks good, though, for whatever reason.

OK, I really don't want to "argue". I'll just point out that I've been a STH of the Monarchs from day one and to me, Lombardi NEEDS to be out here...
DT spent a fair amount of time out here when he was the guy...
My only hope is that who ever is chosen is allowed to coach. Over the past 5 years as a STH, it has been very obvious that the Kings have micro managed the coaching staff. Boudreau, in my opinion, had his hands tied and feet bound.

Beyond the STH, you need to remember some things:
1. The VWA is owned by the City of Manchester and it was probably the most politically controversial project I'll ever see in the city...
2. The Monarchs are the primary tenant for the arena...
3. The City depends on revenue from the Arena to pay the Bond...
4. The Kings recently replaced their Hockey Operations Staff...
5. The Monarchs iced their weakest team to date last season...
Not to get off target here but... you brought it up (VWA). At age 55 my wife and I are a little tired of getting "strip searched" when we enter the front doors.
All for the actual sake of finding contraband Coca Cola cans, Good 'n Plenty's or Juicy Fruits. When we went to see the Kings play in Beantown, security treated you like a guest and not a potential suspect.
I understand what you're saying. I was just trying to give him a little credit.
I'll give Lombardi and Hextall credit when I see what they bring into Manchester this season.
Mike Sullivan as the coach would be a nice start, so we'll see come Friday...
They've really not done anything to bolster the Monarchs line-up. Sure we might see Kopitar in Manchester for the first part of the season, but after him, we're really looking at last year's team with the addition of Ivanans and replacing Wilford with Buckley.

They nabbed my 14-yr old with some Reese's cups last season...
